Diana’s last breath: Let him go, or I’ll come back for you
You have to pay for each of your actions, and sometimes with blood

This terrible story happened to my friend, who is no longer alive. There were a lot of different rumors around her death, but I’m sure there was some mysticism here.
I’ve known Diana since high school. The most popular girl in the class, beautiful, sociable, she easily made friends and turned the guys’ heads. At the same time, she was a creature, and if necessary, she walked on the ears, and betrayed, without being tormented by remorse, but everyone forgave her. We were once best friends, but after her betrayal, I kept communication with her to a minimum.
After graduation, we saw each other once a year. I wouldn’t talk to her at all, because we had completely different ideas about morality — she changed rich “daddies”, wove intrigues at work, easily fought off guys she liked. But I was attracted to her by her extraordinary intelligence and erudition. And she respected me for the fact that I always had a decent answer ready for her sarcastic remarks.
She lived in America for several years, got married, divorced, and returned to Sweden in the winter of 2011. And in the summer she was drawn to the village, to her grandmother — the last time she was there, at the age of 14. Diana invited me with her, and I gladly agreed — in June, my husband left for 3 months on a business trip, and I was very sad and lonely. Besides, I’m a freelancer and I can afford to relax whenever I want. And so, having loaded everything necessary into the car, giving Diana another “money bag”, we set off.
The village where Diana’s grandmother lived is located in a remote place. There are also dilapidated houses where mostly old people and narrow-minded, drunk or lazy youth live, and several modern cottages — a clean lake and a dense, chic forest are attractive to wealthy summer residents.
On the first day we went to meet the local youth — they turned out to be quite boring people. But Diana immediately fell in love with a handsome and prominent guy Philip — just Apollo, the first guy in the village. Philip had a girl — ugly, stocky, with a rough face, whose name was Maria (real name). A couple of days later, Philip was already walking with my friend, fascinated by her beauty and charm, and Maria became the object of ridicule of local girls (surely many envied her because of Philip). Naturally, it was immediately clear that Diana would “walk and throw”, “daddy” was waiting for her at home, but Maria perceived what had happened as a tragedy.
Every evening she came to Diana and tearfully begged her to give up Philip. And she mocked her as best she could. “Village cow, look at your face, who needs you? Your grooms are in the pigsty,” and all that sort of thing. I tried to reason with my friend, even saying that I would take her with Philip on camera and send her to “daddy”, but she was in a hurry to torment the naive girl. I was disgusted to look at it. Eventually I made friends with a couple from the cottage and spent time with them, sometimes even spending the night with them while Diana was having fun with Philip and mocking Maria.
A few days before the end of our vacation, I saw Maria on the street. She walked with her head down, sad, I would even say heartbroken. Approaching her, I said, “Well, why are you humiliating yourself in front of her? Have pride, there are a lot of guys, he’s not the only one in the world. Most likely, when Diana leaves, he will come running to you. In the meantime, you can take care of yourself — make a new hairstyle, buy fashionable clothes — as soon as he sees you, he will immediately understand who he has lost.”
I managed to cheer Maria up, but not quite as I expected. That evening I spent the night at Diana’s. At 11 o’clock, Maria came to her again — made up and dressed like a call girl, with terrible “chemistry” on her head. Maria started showing off, they say, now I’m so beautiful, I’m better than you, and Philip will be mine!
Diana hadn’t laughed like that for a long time, and after she stopped laughing, sarcastically commented on Maria’s appearance, finally saying that she would take
Philippa would go to the city with him and make a model out of him (then it became funny to me). But Maria had a tantrum. She attacked Diana with fists and tears: “You won’t get it, it’s mine, mine!” Diana’s grandmother and I barely managed to separate them and push Maria out into the street. After that, I quarreled with Diana, and we went to bed.
And the next morning we learned the terrible news — Maria drowned. She did not return home at night, and while her family was looking for her, fishers found her body in the lake. No one had any doubts — she drowned herself because of an unhappy love.
Philip cried like a child and scolded himself. He didn’t say a word to Diana, the village girls who had recently helped her mock Maria called her to the “arrow”, and I realized that it was time to leave. “You made her drown herself yesterday, do you even understand that?” I asked Diana. “It’s not my fault that this fool drowned herself, I just told her who she was and what she was. It’s not my fault she was so cowardly.” I didn’t expect any other answer from my friend. We didn’t talk much on the way.
When I got home, I took a shower and went to bed, turning off my mobile phone. A couple of hours later, I woke up and found more than 30 missed calls from Diana. She called again, but I didn’t pick up. And an hour later she came up to me — tearful, confused. She was shaking nervously. I’ve never seen her like this.
“As soon as I arrived, I decided to take a bath. I’m lying down, getting high, starting to doze off, and suddenly someone abruptly lowers my feet into the water. I try to get up, but someone holds my legs tightly, I start to choke, I thought I was finished, but then “it” seemed to loosen its grip, and I broke free. I ran out of the bathroom and called you right away. What was it, can you tell me?”; “Most likely, you just relaxed, dozed off, so you imagined it,” I replied. We sat for a while, drank a bottle of liquor, and then my friend went home.
The oddities began to repeat themselves. The friend almost drowned in the bathroom again and began to take a shower, until one day she saw the swollen face of the drowned woman in the mirror. Diana started going to the shower with “dad”, but continued to see the reflection (“dad” did not see it), and one day, when “dad” moved away, she slipped, fell and earned several bruises and a slight concussion. At the same time, she claimed that there was a lot of pressure on her.
Diana became afraid of water — once, when she was washing, boiling water poured out of the tap instead of cold water. And another time she swore that instead of tap water, river water with sand and algae went. Every night she had the same dream that she was swimming in the lake with Maria, and she was dragging her to the bottom. After a month and a half, Diana, who had never complained of nerves, became paranoid. The pills prescribed by the therapist did not help, and the couple of healers she turned to did not help in any way, taking an impressive amount for services.
That evening we sat at a friend’s house over a bottle of wine and discussed the situation. I thought it was the revenge of a drowned woman, and Diana needed to find a good witch as soon as possible. The friend agreed defensively. This made me angry, and I told her everything I thought about her behavior towards Maria. As a result, we quarreled, and I left. That was the last time I saw Diana alive.…
Her fiance, Alexandro, found them when they returned home in the morning. Diana drowned in the bathroom. Considering the amount of alcohol consumed and the absence of signs of forced entry into the apartment, it was an accident. But… Diana had bruises on her wrists and neck, and a small strand of blonde hair was floating in the bathroom (a friend at that time had short dark hair). The tub was half empty. There were puddles of water on the floor. We looked at the CCTV cameras in the entrance and on the floor (this is not uncommon in elite houses): After I left, Diana went to the store to buy more wine, and no one else approached her. As far as I understood, the death was considered an accident, although many said that Diana was drowned by a rival. Others believed she had committed suicide… Diana’s fiance was not eager to expand on the topic of my friend’s death with me or with other acquaintances of Diana, so I do not know what the conclusion of the medical examination and other details were…
I felt the death of my friend hard, although I condemned her behavior. I also feel sorry for Maria, who could not survive Diana’s bullying and betrayal of a loved one.
Human cruelty is punishable, and a harmless girl could avenge herself from the other world. Although, who knows if Diana was driven to madness by a suddenly awakened conscience?
