Coven Massacre
They wanted to summon a creature to protect them from harm. And bit off far more then they could chew.
"From the Earth, you were born. To the Earth, you return.",the eldest witch chanted. I wasn't really paying her much mind. Right now, I was trying to keep the protection circle from faltering. This creature was more than any of us had been able to handle. Which, I had warned everyone around me from the start. But no one wanted to listen to the newest and youngest Witch.
Nor will they admit that they were wrong when this is over. If we survive this that is.
I kept tossing every single charm that I could use. Putting down more sigils that had worked in the past. That I felt weren't doing enough now as I ran around the whole circle. And that I'm just really delaying the inevitable of what is to come from this. But, I wasn't stopping my work as I finished the last sigil. There was no way that I could give up so damn easily and get hurt. I want to live, I want to live and see my family. See everyone else that I love, too.
Before I could even stand up straight, I was thrown back a few feet. Landing on my ass as the creature we had summoned had predictably destroyed the circle. Everyone else got to their feet before I could and scattered without me. The monster stared at me as I scooted backwards through the dirt. Tears welling up in my eyes as the creature got closer and closer to me. Drool dripping from its maw as it stared deep into my eyes. Before it could open its maw, I fell backwards into a large hole in the ground.
I wasn't sure how long I had been rolling down this huge hill. But, when I stopped my head was aching like Hell.
For the longest moment, I didn't move from my spot on the ground. I was more disoriented then I thought I was. Though I started moving when I heard the creature snapping at me. Sneering at me from where I had fallen from. Unable to squeeze its form through it as it sneered down at me in anger. Snorting before pulling itself free from the spot and moving out of my line of sight. A second later, maybe, I heard my fellow coven members screaming in horrific fear and pain.
Getting off the ground, I tried to climb back up to help them. To save whomever that I could from the creature that we had summoned. But, my arm was broken from the fall. And my leg might have been, too. I couldn't see it all that clearly in what little light there was. Pushing myself wasn't going as good as I thought it was going to. I tried to make myself pretend that I wasn't hurting. That everything was perfectly fine.
Clearly, I couldn't do that.
All I could do was lay there on the ground as my coven was slaughtered. Listening to them scream my name over and over again as I couldn't do a damned thing. Tears rolling down my cheeks as I couldn't get myself to save any of them. Once the screaming stopped, I heard nothing more then terrible silence. There wasn't even the sound of the creature's breathing or voice as I sat there. For a few seconds at least, then I heard it coming towards my direction once more before it stopped moving entirely. I glanced up at where I had fallen to see it slowly disappear into nothingness.
Or something close to that.
Either way, there was nothing that I could do as I laid there. My phone was still in the car that the eldest witch, Marigold I think her name had been, insisted we leave it in. So now I'm stuck here for a bit. Maybe as soon as I can gather enough strenghth, I can drag myself out of this whatever it is.
Well, that had been the plan until I spotted someone above me. A shadow of a person. I was thinking that it was the creature turned into something smaller to get to me. I closed my eyes as I waited for the inevitable. Not wanting to see the death that awaited me. Imagine my surprise when I wasn't immediately mauled and instead heard someone asking me,"Dahlia? Can you hear me?"
"Dahlia? Are you okay?",he asked. It was this guy that Marigold introduced me to sometime ago. I think, I think his name is Ray or something like that? I opened my eyes to look up at the dark haired vampire as he checked me over. Looking worried as he kept asking me questions that I couldn't keep up with. Once he realized that I wasn't okay, he muttered,"Listen, I'm gonna get you to safety."
"Just grit your teeth, this ain't gonna be fun.",Ray warned. Tossing me over his shoulder and jostling every injury that I had gotten. I did my best to not make one sound. Praying he'd get us out of here quickly. And that the beast was back where it belonged.
