The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the windows. I stared intensely at it, as it drew me into it’s flame. I could feel my body being pulled towards the cabin. Suddenly, the phone rang. I felt dazed, wondering… where am I? With the phone still in hand, a muffled voice talking, I looked out the window, I couldn’t see anything.

I put the phone to my ear and heard.. we’re coming over, have snacks ready. All I could say was, “okay.” Then, click, the phone was off. Something deep inside of me, was saying, this was NOT a good idea, but I made snacks, and got things ready.

Wait a minute? What was I getting ready? It was just the girls. Why do I need rope, plastic, and tools? What is this?! What am I thinking? No no NO! Panic was setting in, but it felt good. I ran to my bedroom and looked out the window, I could see a small glow off in the distance. How could I see it? That cabin has to be miles away? How can I see it, that’s impossible!

That doorbell rang, and when I looked back to the window, there was nothing. No glow, no cabin..yes, it must’ve been my imagination. As I got to the living room, my kid brother was being a butthead, but I let the turdhead think he was hot stuff. Lol. As we walked down the hallway to my room, I had this uneasy feeling.

AAAAAAHHH!!! Everyone screamed. My dumb kid brother jumped out of the bathroom, dressed in black. I think I turned white, but I was holding everyone back. What was I doing? They thought I was in on it, as a joke. I snapped out of it, when I felt one of the girls hit my arm. What happened to me? Why don’t I remember? We continued into my room, and I felt sick. I didn’t want to ruin the evening, so I played along, and kept calm.

It had only been an hour, but I felt like my feet were glued to the floor. I wanted to run, but my body was drawn to that room. I needed air, and yet I felt this feeling. An indescribable feeling.

It was almost midnight, and I went to grab some snacks from the kitchen.

“Come help me.” I heard in a small voice.

“Just a minute, I’m making some food.” I said back.

“Come help me.” I heard again.

I turned around, no one was there, and suddenly… I felt ice, creep up my spine. I couldn’t move.

“Do you need any help?” Torey asked, as I heard come help me, echo in the back ground . By the looks of it, she couldn’t hear it. My panic eased a little, but I was being drawn to the basement. I let her take the snacks to the other girls. Off she went, and I went to the basement. I heard a voice talking to me.

I heard a sweet woman’s voice saying, “help me. I’m here.”

I asked, “where? I don’t see you?”

Again, I heard, “help me. Why won’t you help me?”

I looked down at my hands, and in my hands was a rope. I lifted the rope, it was tied and knotted. On the small table in front of me, was a small spade, shears, and a weird looking dagger. I was literally shook!

I ran up the stairs and locked the door.

What had just happened? Did anything happen? How long have I been down here? What is going on?

Just then, Torey came around the corner, “we need drinks,” she asked.

Puzzled, and very dumbfounded, I pointed to the fridge. She asked, “are you okay? You don’t look so good. Are you getting sick?” I waved her off, and she continued. She was talking the whole time about my brother, but I couldn’t hear a thing she was saying. My mind was elsewhere. I told her I’ll be right there, and she disappeared down the hall.

I heard again, come help me. This time I said, “No!” I went back to my room.

The girls were laughing and talking about their boyfriends when out the window, I saw a glow. I panicked, and tried to play it off. One of the girls Mia, noticed. She asked, “what are you looking at?” She looked out the window. Seeing nothing, she asked again.

Holy cow, She can’t see anything! How does she not see anything? Can’t she see the light?

“You are going to help me.” The voice said and the candle went out.

All of the lights went out and everyone screamed. I told everyone to stay put, I was going to go find a flashlight and some candles. Thank goodness for phone lights, am I right? No one wanted to stay so they followed me to the kitchen. We found candles and Bobby, my kid brother, already had the flashlights. We sat in the family room and Kara, asked, “isn’t there a cabin not too far from here.”

“Yes.” I said “It’s about five miles from here.”

“Didn’t someone die there?” Kara asked.

“Yeah, I heard that too.” Torey exclaimed quietly. “They say she killed herself, but everyone knows she was killed.”

“I wonder who did it?” Said Kara. “We should go look.”

“No Kara! It’s dark and it’s far.” I said with warning.

“I’m not going. I’ll stay here.” Mia said frightened.

“It’s okay Mia, we’re not going. Kara, you’re scaring Mia.”

Suddenly, I heard that sweet woman’s voice, “Come help me, I’m here.”

Kara was dead set on going to the cabin, so was Torey. She said they were going to just drive to the cabin and look at it. Bobby wanted to go, and they need someone to show them where it was. So, I stayed with Mia.

We put blankets in the family room, so when they got back, we would all be together.

Suddenly, I felt terror in my gut. “I’m here.” Said the woman.

I felt a headache start at the back of my neck. With my eyes closed, I rolled my head around, and when I opened my eyes, I was in the basement. As I looked around, there was a faint light shining on the table. As I slowly walked closer, on the table, was a shape. Something unfamiliar.

There, on the table.. was a lifeless, unimaginable vision of Mia. What happened? I need to find help, I need to call for help. Then I saw my hands. They were full of blood. What happened? I was covered in blood. What is going on?! Mia poor sweet Mia. She did nothing, and now she’s dead. She laid there. Her eyes had been dug out, her arms had been severed. That weird looking knife was sticking in her heart.

Oh no, oh no, oh no! What do I do? Kara and Torey are going to be back soon. Just then, the top of the dagger started to glow. I heard the woman’s voice say, thank you. The glow was gone.

I ran upstairs, slam the door, and locked it. I started to cry uncontrollably, as I tried to wash the blood off of my hands. I couldn’t take my clothes off fast enough as I ran to my room to find some clothes. As the blood washed down the drain, all I could think of was Mia laying there, with no eyes. “AAAAaahhhh!!! What have I done? What is wrong with me?”

When I got out of the shower, I took the clothes and threw them in the trash. I looked around and saw nothing out of place. I walked into my room, and on my desk.. was that dagger. I felt that terror in my gut again. Why was it here? I locked it in the basement. It shouldn’t be here. Then I heard it, “come help me.”

“Who are you?” I asked terrified.

Just then I heard the door open. Kara burst through the door. “We’re back! Looking around, she asked, “where’s Mia?”

“She went home. She didn’t want to stay.” I explained

“Yeah, it’s best.” Said Kara. “I should call her and..”

I interrupted her before she could say anymore. “What did you guys see at the cabin? Was Bobby okay?”

“It was creepy! We got out and looked in the windows. Kara stated. There’s a chair and a bed in there. Is someone living there?”

“Not that I know of.” I said “My dad boarded it up and said he was going to tear it down.”

“We heard a board creek, and we left!” Exclaimed Kara “Haha, I never seen Bobby so scared in my life.”

“I wasn’t scared.” Said Bobby “Kara’s right though. It looks like someone’s there, and I saw a shadow.”

His eyes were big and round, and he was scared. He grabbed his blanket and set it down next to mine.

I asked Kara, if she saw any lights on, in the neighborhood. She said nothing was on.

“I think the safest thing, would be to stick together.” I stated “Or, you guys can go home. It’s your choice.”

Kara said, “I’m staying.”

“So am I.” Followed Torey.

Relief showed over Bobby’s face. I myself, was very relieved. We went into the kitchen and got a bunch of junk food. Out the kitchen window, I saw a faint light.

“What are you looking at?” Kara asked.

“Nothing, just thinking. Why are you watching me?” I snapped.

“Gee, paranoid much? Just asking.”

“I’m sorry Kara. I just want these lights back on.” I explained.

“It’s okay, I get it. Don’t worry, I’m here.” Kara said

I felt all the blood drain from me, “What did you just say?”

“I said, I get it. Let’s everyone calm down.” She said. I agreed and we started to enjoy ourselves again.

The light in the window was gone, and I was glad. I felt normal again. Until..

Bobby started to make noise behind me. I turned around and he was trying to open the basement door. I yelled NO, and startled everyone.

“Why is this door locked?” Bobby asked.

“I didn’t want anyone to get hurt.” I said. “It’s dark, and I don’t want anyone falling down those stairs or getting stuck down there, So I locked it.”

“That’s smart.” Said Kara “I don’t want to be stuck down there.”

“Yeah, me neither.” Chimed in Torey.

“I think it’s best we just go to sleep.” I added.

“Aww, come on, let’s tell ghost stories!” Kara excitedly asked.

Bobby was already asleep, and Torey had her blanket over her head. “Kara, not tonight. I think we’ve had enough excitement.”

“Are you scared?” She asked.

“No, I’m tired. I said. I closed my eyes and tried to not think about Mia.

“You’ll like my story. It’s about a girl who wouldn’t help.” Said Kara.

I opened my eyes and looked at Kara, she looked at me and said, “Why won’t you help me?”

She had the dagger in her hand and plunged it into Torey.

“What are you doing Kara? Stop!” I screamed. I reached over and shook Bobby, but he wouldn’t wake up. He was lifeless, and I couldn’t stop crying.

“I’m doing what you couldn’t.” Kara calmly said.

Just then we both saw the light in the window, the small candle flickering.

I heard the woman’s voice, but instead of come help me, this time it was, “come to me.”

I felt a sharp pain in my chest. Kara stabbed me with the dagger.

So.. if you ever hear a women’s voice saying, “come help me,” take it as a warning, I’m not far behind.
