Buried Obsession
A dark obsession may have turned deadly.
The wooden boards creaked from a heavy weight as my eyes flickered open. My head pounded while my throat begged for water. A loud hum buzzed in my ear. My long brown hair was matted from the silk pillow below my sweating head. Darkness swallowed me, causing my brain to want to panic. Dried blood coated my broken fingernails.
"What is your answer?" A cold familiar male voice inquired. "Do you want to be with me or die in the ground six feet under?" My body trembled with despair. My maniac ex-boyfriend buried me about a day ago. Yesterday was filled with desperation and scratching until blood dripped from my fingers. I had wanted to scream, but my brain told me not too. Large tears flowed down my cheek.
"No way. I would rather die than be back with you." I protested weakly. "Why would I want to be with a man who buries their ex? Fuck you." Evil laughter filled my ear, making my heart beat faster. Never tease your captor too much or you will most certainly die.
"Your choice." He said cruelly. "Besides I don't want a fowl mouth woman. Have a nice time dying." The humming of the air stopped, raising worry in my anxious mind. Judging by my calculation I would have a day's worth of air if I took long slow breaths. A vibration shook my shaking hands. A screen lit up the pitch black revealing a hopeful message.
It read "Where are you?" from James, my current boyfriend. The limited space didn't allow me to text him back. A light bulb appeared over my head when I texted my location. A red battery taunted me as the screen died bathing me in darkness. Claws scratched at the wooden board raining dirt onto my sweat-soaked face. Howls echoed around as paws thudded all around me. Stay in the coffin and suffocate from dirt or get ripped apart by wolves. Great, I was in a real life would you rather. Choosing the wolves, my foot banged until the wood snapped in half. Moist dirt flooded in as my hand found the forest floor. Grunting, my arms pulled me out of the cold hard ground. Yellow hungry eyes stared back at me. Tongues licked muzzles, making my heart stop beating. Thump, Thump. Act bigger than them I thought grimly to myself. A rough tongue grazed my cheeks as I saw wolf puppies around me. They just wanted to play. Their gray fur was nearly blue in the full moon. Twisted dead trees surrounded me. The roots covered the forest floor. A twig snapped behind me, making me spin around to see a huge black wolf.
The rocks cut into my feet as it lunged towards me. My hands clambered up the nearest tree. The big wolf just stared up at me and growled. It's massive claws dug at the trunk. A gun shot flew by head, narrowly missing me. The wolf pack skittered into the forest line.
"Yvette!" My boyfriend called. "You out here?" The bark cut into my pale hands, making me bleed. Slowly and painfully, I climbed down until firm dirt lay beneath my feet. James picked me up and spun around.
"I missed you so much." I stammered, reaching for his water bottle. "My crazy ex buried me alive." A flashlight lit us up as my ex approached us. The air stirred when a bullet nearly hit us.
"Why couldn't you just stay in your hole?" He asked, shaking his head. "You have always been a pain in my ass." James' body stiffened as his hand searched for his gun. Quietly the bullets sank into their holes, waiting to be used. His arm shook as he raised his arm. The safety clicked off. The trigger struggled to pull back. A loud pop erupted between us. My eyes slammed shut to see my ex writhing on the ground. Blood pooled beneath his slicked back brown hair. Something was wrong though. It wasn't even him.
"Looking for me." He announced, pressing a cold muzzle to my sweating temple. "I don't mind killing two people though." The trigger squeaked, my eyes closing in anticipation. Another pop was heard behind me. My ex dropped to the ground in a loud thud.
"Are you two okay?" A gruff voice asked out of breath. "I followed James here." Joy filled my heart as my dad embraced me. Old spice danced up my nose. A large smile danced across my face at the sight of a Snickers in my hand.
"My favorite." I exclaimed excitedly. "I love you both so much." Warmth brightened the air. Orange rays danced over the hill. Heels clicked on the ground, light beams flying all around us. Officers flooded the scene with looks of relief on their faces. The two dead bodies were quickly toted away, leaving us and a short man in a cheap suit. The smell of nicotine floated up my nostrils.
"Do ya need a hospital?" He asked, looking me over. "Can you come to the station?" Nodding, the small path crunched beneath my feet. A cruiser with flashing lights greeted us, making my heart swell with joy. I was safe, or so I thought. A wicked grin darkened his face. My copper eyes widened in fear at the sight of the dead cop's body in the cruiser.
"I am his father." He introduced himself, circling me. "We run a certain type of ring. Your beauty would certainly bring us a nice fat check." My eyes followed him. His wrinkled hand graced my cheek, making me shudder in disgust.
"No way." I uttered in shock. "I won't let you take me." A needle glinted in the morning sun. A drop of green liquid dripped down the silver point.
"This is a paralyzing agent." He explained, tracing my lips. "There is enough in here to paralyze an elephant." A crunch echoed around me when my foot smashed into his groin. A groan tumbled out of his lips, dropping to his knees. The needle smashed against the ground shattering the glass. The green liquid pooled beneath the broken glass. Officers came up behind me and cuffed his hands. Kicking and screaming, he was tossed into another cruiser. Feeling exhausted and numb, my tired feet climbed into my James' black truck. Sleep over took me as my eyes slowly closed shut.
The bright morning light blinded me as my eyes fluttered open to my black and red bedroom. James was snoring next to me. A soft smile lit up my face when he stirred awake. His gray eyes glittered excitedly at me.
"I am so happy you are awake." He blurted out happily. "We were looking for you for so long." His warm arms squeezed me until a wheeze escaped me. My heart pounded in my chest when his lips pressed against mine. Blushing, he pulled away from me.
"I love you. You were the reason that I never gave up." I admitted sheepishly. "Thank you for finding me." Shrugging, he looked into my eyes.
"Breakfast!" My dad hollered. Grinning at each other we ran downstairs to get breakfast. Time for some french toast.
