Army of Darkness Deserves a Lot of Love from Horror Fans
I will never understand how this film received so much backlash upon its release.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Bruce Campbell when it comes to the horror franchise of The Evil Dead. He appears in the original trilogy of the franchise, and each film is its own standalone film. Army of Darkness is the third film in the Evil Dead franchise, and I feel that a lot of people aren’t a huge fan of this one.
I know how cheesy this film was compared to the rest of the Evil Dead films, but despite the lack of scares and violence, this film was an entertaining adventure. I loved how hilarious Army of Darkness was, and this one did deliver on a lot of iconic cheesy lines and funny moments I did not expect from Ash, one of the best final boys in horror.
I know that Army of Darkness was supposed to be another gory film in the franchise, but due to a lot of studio interference, we got the only Evil Dead film with a lack of gore. A lot of people don’t associate this film with the Evil Dead franchise at all, because people felt like a huge opportunity was missed out on this film.
Evil Dead 2 ended with one of the best endings in horror, trapping Ash in a medieval world where he must fight the demons. I’m sure that a lot of horror fans were expecting a full-on battle royale against the evil, but we got a comedic and action adventure with Ash’s character instead.
In my personal opinion, I did not mind the change.

Army of Darkness is one of my favorite horror films of all time.
I love how purposely cheesy and campy the story was, and I love how action packed this film was. I had a lot of fun with it the first time I watched it. I love all of the Evil Dead films in different ways, and I really liked how the story was tackled in the third entry.
What makes the franchise so special with each film is how different they each are. Army of Darkness is its own movie, and I think it’s a damn good horror story. After Ash is thrown into a medieval world after defeating the demons in the second film, he finds himself being forced to play the hero, to protect the kingdom from the demons.
Plus, we get Ash at his most comedic yet, and probably his most heroic self too, despite the fact that he never wanted to be a hero in the first place lol.
You could tell in one part of the movie that Ash was so done, and I did not even blame him. I would get so tired of taking down demons for who knows how long, and this dude was so fed up toward the third act of the film.
And we also get a pretty interesting villain in the third entry too.

While Ash is stuck trying to get rid of the demons, he is faced against one of his biggest rivals: an evil version of himself. After Ash defeats him with a shotgun to the face, his evil twin returns from the dead, becoming a creepy looking demon that leads an army of the undead.
The final battle sequence is so entertaining, and I loved how over the top the action became. It was hilarious and awesome to watch, and I love the practical effects that were used for the army and the evil twin.
I love Army of Darkness, and I think it deserves more love from horror fans.
Thank you for reading!
