The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. It was lucky for Amy , having just ran away from home and diving into the forest behind her rotten house.
She knew this forest was considered to be 'haunted' as many of the townsfolk said. But she wasn't scared nor did she care.
She didn't believe in ghosts or witches or demons or anything supernatural as a matter of fact. She planned to run away for months now. Her mothers new husband was everything she despised. How dare she get remarried when her actual dad was out there somewhere. In this exact forest.
Her dad went on a hunting trip a few years ago with his buddies.
"Ghost hunting, Annie. Too big a job for a little girl like you."
Amy scuffed, she wasn't little then and she wasn't little now. She knew he went hunting for deer and whatever wild animals, but he was a supernatural nut and loved the horror stuff.
Amy picked her way through the dead trees and animal droppings the forest was littered with. The sun began falling beneath the tree canopies , casting funny shaped shoes on the forest floor.
Amy shifted her backpack uncomfortably, she didn't realize how cold it was getting. The darkness seemed to come crashing down faster than she thought. She walked faster hoping maybe the forest would break away to a road or even a nice warm inn.
She walked faster, her arms wrapped around her body trying to keep herself warm. The only sound in the forest was her teeth chattering and her own footsteps.
Maybe she just didn't realize how lively the forest usually was.
Just as Amy was about to give up and turn back, a soft glow caught her eye. The light flickered between the trees , warm and inviting.
Perhaps it was a street lamp or even better a home.
She picked up the pace , stumbling her way through the black forest. The closer she got to the flickering light the more welcome and warm she felt.
Finally breaking through the trees she came across a cabin it was old and falling apart, the door was off the hinges and banged against the house as the wind picked up. There was a fallen tree that had landed on the house cutting it in half. Amy could see that it once a lovely cabin, but now it could barely hold itself together.
The only thing that had life from within that cabin was a bright candle flame dancing in the window. Amy felt a pull toward the candle, as if it whispered to her and welcomed her home.
Before she knew it Amy was pulling the door open, and stepping inside the cabin. She gasped as the world seemed to transform before her eyes, the walls rebuilt wood piece by piece , the tree rose stood up and the roof knit itself back together. The door fixed itself and disappeared into the wall.
“W-wait!” She cried , banging on the wall where the door disappeared.
Annie……
Amy turned around , her skin paling and hands falling limp at her sides.
“Dad?” She called timidly. The cabin seemed to get longer in front of her as a hallway opened up.
Annie….
“Dad? Is that you?” Annie called, carefully stepping down the hallway. A door creaked open at the end of the hall, a warm light flooded the hallway.
Annie, you found me…
“D-dad if that’s you come out! I’m scared!” Annie cried, stopping in the hallway. A large shadow filled the doorway at the end of the hall.
Annie, why aren’t you coming to me?
The shadow seemed to contort for a moment before appearing back into shape. Amy froze in fear, the candle in the window fluttered.
“You’re not my dad!” She yelled, turning and running back towards the way she came. The door materialized as she ran, but the hallway just got longer and longer.
Annie that’s no way to talk to ẙ̸̮͓̻̞͙̙̘̘͍̬̌̅̚͝o̸͎̘̘͋͊̈́̈̽͘͜͝ũ̴̖̮̰͍͙͖͈̣͍͖͊̊̒̀̎̚̚͠r̵̠͇̼͈̟̙̂̈́̂́̎̀̑̇̕͠ ̸̬̝͋͂̒̂̅̓͝f̴͓̩̬̣̩̂̓͗̑͝ͅą̴̹̝̼͔̱̦͎̻̽̄̄̀t̴̼̩̤̭̻̻̟͕̔̐͑͗͘͘͠h̴̢̡̥̯̝͍̻̙͕͑̋́̿ͅe̸̡̝̩̳̯͇͌͂̓̐̃͛͜r̵̨̞̻̬̣͍̰̈͒̒́̅̍
The voice cracked and turned demonic, Amy looked back as she ran and a large half man , half animal crawled out of the door. Slowly making its way down the hallway towards her. The man part looked exactly like her father and the animal part looked like a deer. The very thing he came out here to hunt.
Come here Annie….
Amy screamed in terror , tripping over her feet and landing on her back.
The candle flickered.
As the thing got closer it began to stand up , hands and hooves reaching out for Amy.
You love me Annie
“STOP LEAVE ME ALONE!! THIS ISN’T REAL! THIS ISN’T REAL!! THIS IS A NIGHTMARE!” Amy shrieked and she skittered away from the thing.
You love me Annie , don’t you remember?
The hallway stopped getting longer and the floor opened up beneath her. Amy screamed as she fell into the endless chasm , her dads laughing face beneath her and she fell into his awaiting mouth.
The candle went out.
-
“Oh come on Brandy! You literally made that up on the spot!”
Everyone groaned,
“Nicole, you literally ruined it.” Brandy groaned, putting his face in his hands.
“You said it was going to be a true story, but I know you’re obsessed with skin walkers so you just made this up on the spot to scare me!”
Brandy looked over at his girlfriend. She had her arms wrapped around herself and sat close to the fire. Her eyes nervously looking around for any signs of a skin walker. He began to feel bad, knowing she got scared easily.
“You’re right Nikki, I just made it up , it’s not true.”
Somewhere in the forest, two candles flickered to life in the window of the cabin in the woods.
