~Post apocalyptic world~

~Ami's Locket~

The world, now barren and seemingly abandoned, is a dangerous place to exist. The entire planet; ravaged, looted, and harvested in just under a week, left with barely scraps of resources. Humanity never would have been able to predict just how fast an advanced extraterrestrial race could destroy everything they had worked so hard to achieve. The aliens came in thousands, their ships cloaked with camouflage, appeared on the 16th of January in 2022. They took everything from technology to livestock, and even some humans. The sunrise of the 23rd of January 2022, it was as if they vanished, leaving only the rubble of their destructive harvest. There is no telling just what all is left out there, and humanity has all but given up hope, but the world, will never be the same again.

July 14th~ Jake's retelling of events in memorial of Ami.

"Ami was a wonderful soul, too young to have been caught in this awful mess. I remember the day we met, their bright blue eyes, the way they glimmered at this pendant... the way it glimmered back in the low light of the dimming sunset..."

-The scene transitions into Jakes memory of that day-

"Ami.. you can't stare at that thing your whole life, we've got to get going, it's getting dark."

Ami breaks their gaze from the heart shaped locket with a wide eyed smile, and focuses upon Jake's restless face. "Oh, Jake, it really is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! Where in this world did you find such a beautiful piece of jewelry! It's truly encaptivating!"

"Well, if you must know, it was my mothers. Come, we must get going, we can discuss it further as we walk, it's not safe here. The scalpers will be roaming all over these parts in just under an hour. If we don't dilly-dally, we can make it to the water tower by moonrise."

Ami chuckles and rests their necklace upon their scarred chest, briefly remembering a time before the crisis. Wiping their teary eyes, they nod to Jake, and once again begin their seemingly neverending nightmare of a trek.

Jake, grasping Ami's hand firmly, and with an eager demeanor in his tone, boldy instructs them to run. "The story of the necklace will have to wait! We've been spotted! The water tower! Run!!!"

-Scene transition back to Jake at memorial-

"And.. that was the last time I saw them. We made it to the water tower, I.. I told them to climb it and.." Jake continues on, voice trembling, tears streaming down his face. "and.. we made it.. halfway. They knew we were too late, and dropped the pendant into my hood. With diamonds in their eyes, I watched as they got ripped from the ladder with a harpoon. Those scalpers harvested her like the aliens did to our world, right before my eyes.. I barely even knew them.. but the way Ami's eyes sparkled, I knew I had to reach out and find someone who may have knew them. I drew a sketch of them and placed it in this locket. Is there anyone here, who may have known them?"

A brief moment passed before a young woman stood up, bawling her eyes out, she approached Jake. "Yes. Ami was my lover, we had been seperated from eachother sometime in June, and promised eachother we'd meet here should we ever be split apart."

Without hesitation, Jake places the heart shaped locket around the womans neck, and then turns to the crowd. "This, it has to stop. We must fight back against the scalpers! How many innocent lives have been lost to them, how many more will it take before you people realize we have to take a stand! We may have lost everything some time ago, but hope, it is not lost! We can rebuild, and live in peace, but we need to first stop these scum. I'm rallying together a militia, who's with me?!"
