I am a horror fan. Rather, I am a picky horror fan... a picky horror fan that usually only loves paranormal flicks. Okay, FINE, I am a picky horror fan that really only loves paranormal flicks reminiscent of The Conjuring universe.

See where I'm going with this? I'm impossible. I make scary movie night miserable. All my friends say so, but it wasn't until I started putting ideas together for this piece that I realized what a narrow-minded horror movie snob I actually am. And not in a classy way either.. I understand very little about what makes a film cinematically great.

However, this irksome complex has not stopped me from sampling a very wide spectrum of ghost flicks, always in hopes of finding a new one that stands up to my all-consuming love of most (if not all) films in The Conjuring universe. But, for the purposes of this piece, let's start at the beginning and hopefully, if you're at all like me (and I am so sorry if you are), you'll find some good suggestions here.

So, let's start with films from The Conjuring universe. If you've seen them and you love them, we'll get along just fine. If you haven't, but you want to get into horror, what are you still doing reading this? Get out of here! Go watch!

Just kidding, you can finish reading this first.

To help those just beginning to dabble in the horror genre, or those who may have SOMEHOW missed a film in The Conjuring cinematic universe, I have created the following graphics:

The Conjuring Series:

The Annabelle Series:

Other Films in The Conjuring Universe:

Okay. I hope you're still with me because now that we've established a framework, I'm prepared to make some suggestions. I'll provide you with a little bit of info for each movie, including:

1. A rating. I have rated each movie (or series) on a 👻ghost👻 scale (1-5) to indicate how spooky I found it (using Conjuring universe movies as a benchmark, of course).

2. Three reasons why I loved it, and why hopefully you will too!

3. Links to the trailer(s)
