With nothing better to do, I just watched the timer.

Fifty minutes………. Forty-five-

Suddenly a scream erupted from a keep no we’re near my own. I heard footsteps then it was deathly silent. All I could understand was that it was a woman. I laid down, heart still throbbing, and watched the timer.

Forty………. Thirty-five……… half an hour.

Almost exactly as the timer read 30:00 the speakers clicked on

“Hello again my trients!” The voice greeted.” The scream you heard was a woman who accidentally woke up during her surgery. So let me explain the surgeries. When you were unconscious we brought you to your room and we laid you on your chair.”

“Now we cleaned the spot behind your left ear so it wouldn’t get infected. We have a drill with a specific bit. Honestly it looks terrifying. We used that and drilled into your skull. We might have accidentally hit a vein or two but we pinched them shut.”

“We have these chips that fit a certain type of hole , specifically made by our drills, we stick that in behind your ear and sprayed a flesh growing chemical so you can’t tear it out. That chip is a brain implant. “

“It helps us track you and it controls your nerves and sees your thoughts. I have the power to send a electric shock through all forty-two of you. And if I search your name your thoughts spill out all over my screen.”

“We had to do this to fifty people so accidents are bound to happen. If your awake it can prove to be fatal. The accidents were either, waking up or, getting a drill it the wrong place or, to much of a specific chemical etc. etc. .”

“Now about the games. There are three rounds. If you lose you will be eliminated. Now like I said earlier the keepers will escort you to the game board. Do not try to resist. They are armed. So rest well my trients for in twenty-six minutes, you shall play your first game. Hosted by yours truly, the GameMaster. “After those few words, the speakers shut off.

The GameMaster gave me a lot to think about. The words,forty- two of you ,and ,that chip is a brain implant, kept circling in my mind. At least I knew how many of us there were.

Then with my hand shaking, I slowly and carefully felt the implant. As soon as I touched it my mind erupted with agony. My

Throbbing headache exploded into a major migraine. I laid down and held my head. The lights were way to bright for my eyes so I squeezed them shut. Tears came. I lay there screaming in pain.

Suddenly my door opens. It was three keepers. The one in the middle had black clothes and a white mask. I assumed he was the leader of them all. In my pain I managed to say,

”Implant…..migraine…” I thought maybe they would understand. Leader looks at the skinny one.

And with the slightest nod the skinny one crossed the room. He took my hands from my head ,pinned them down with his right knee and pried my mouth open. He then dropped some sort of pill into my mouth then released me.

Tasting it I knew it was a pill so instinctively a swallowed it. They left the room one by one then shut the door behind them. The pill , for the moment it was in my mouth, tasted like soap. My migraine stopped at once and then came in a dull throb.

I assumed they check everyone’s room when there’s screaming inside. The timer read 10:25. I got up and went to the bathroom. I brushed my hair and teeth. I kind of styled it so it was parted down the middle.

I stood there looking at my reflection. My white shirt had tear stains. My deep brown hair lay at my elbows. My freckles from the sun seemed to fade. I knew my body missed the outdoors. I wondered if I would ever see the light of day again.

A shock ran through my body as a loud alarm shook the room. I ran into the main part of my keep. My clock was going off, but it wasn’t just mine,It was tens of them. At that moment two different keepers came in. One grabbed my arm thinking I would resist, but I didn’t. The other was behind me. The first escorted me out of my door and to the left.

It was a giant hallway with doors on either side. The walls were thick gray concrete. The floor was white square tile, and the lights were just lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling. There were at least a dozen more doors on the right of my keep.

We walked calmly down the corridor. I heard a man scream up ahead. It was not a scream of pain. It was of resistance. There were quick footsteps and, a gunshot, followed by silence. The keepers didn’t even flinch.

I heard a dull hum which I thought was other trients mumbling to themselves. After the shot, this humming disappeared. Two to three doors down a man lay on his stomach, lifeless, with two keepers looming over him.

Ever since the speakers shut of I’ve encountered many emotions.

Fear gripped my heart, sadness tore up my throat, hatred made my whole body shiver, but in all of this chaos, deep inside I have felt a small sense of hope.
