I'm a massive horror fan, and I have come to love so many horror films I have watched throughout the years. Some of these are considered horror classics, and each of these films holds a special place in my heart. I could literally watch these films at any time, and have now become my go to horror films for Halloween.

This list could honestly be so much longer, but I would like to focus on only five films. I would love to create a huge list of my favorite horror films sometime in the future, so stay tuned for that!

Here are my top 5 films that I love to watch during Halloween:

5. American Psycho

This film is one of my most favorite slashers. I was introduced to this film back in college, and I think Patrick Bateman is what sells the film for me. Patrick is a rich asshole who can be sort of charming, but in reality, he is a ruthless monster who will murder anyone.

The film also does a great job exploring a psychological standpoint of Bateman, making you wonder if everything was all in his head, or perhaps something far sinister is taking place within the rich world.

It's a fantastic character study that will make you wonder for days.

4. Sleepy Hollow

This is probably my favorite Tim Burton film. I have seen this movie so many times throughout my life, and it has become a Halloween classic for me. Tim Burton decided to tackle the Washington Irving story of Sleepy Hollow, and does his own version that is dark and gory.

We follow the story of Ichabod Crane, who comes to the town of Sleepy Hollow to figure out who is committing multiple murders in the town. He comes to learn that it is the Headless Horseman, who is murdering people and taking the heads of his victims.

For me, it's the romance story that makes me come back to this film. Ichabod and Katrina are so cute together, and I love how protective they become towards each other as the film progresses!

3. Evil Dead 2

I think that Evil Dead 2 is my favorite horror/comedy of all time. This film sort of does a re - do of the first movie, creating a comedy gory masterpiece instead. Ash Williams has become my favorite final boy, and I can't believe how this dude is able to come up with ways to survive throughout the film.

It's awesome how the film is able to create the perfect balance of pure horror along with hilarious moments of Ash freaking out over his situation. Poor dude deserved a freaking break, and he makes it so obvious that he was so done with battling demons throughout the whole film.

And we also get one of the best endings I have seen in a horror sequel!

2. The Thing

I can't believe this film performed poorly the first time it was released in theaters. This John Carpenter film is a body horror masterpiece full of tension and extreme gore. I love the paranoia that builds up during the film, and how crazy all of the men get during their horrible situation in the middle of nowhere.

I don't blame the dudes for going insane, since they were all being hunted by an alien life form that could literally take on their actual forms to use as a distraction to kill everyone else. It's a brutal film, and it's interesting how fans have developed their own interpretations of the ending and the exact order of who got infected first.

I'm glad to see that this film now has a cult following, it totally deserves the popularity from horror fans!

1. The Blair Witch Project

I have written about this movie so many times. I am utterly obsessed with this film for so many reasons, and I have stated that this is the best horror film ever made. It's a raw found footage horror film that really focuses on the terror of being trapped in the woods with no way out.

You will feel the fear building up from the trio as they find themselves being hunted by an unknown threat that is most likely the witch, but we never actually learn who is the potential threat. It plays with your imagination, and it is executed so well!

Every time I see this film, I get scared every single time. And that terrifying ending will forever stay with me.

What are your five favorite horror films?
