What Russian attempted mutiny means for Putin's grip on power | WNT
The crisis in Russia has been averted for now, but there are still major questions about Russian President Vladimir Putin's leadership, and the war in Ukraine

more now on the turmoil inside Russia
and what this means for Putin's grip on
power let's bring in ABC's Patrick Revel
also in Ukraine tonight Patrick it
appears crisis averted at least for now
but this is a fluid situation and it
raises major questions about Russian
leadership and the war in Ukraine
wait yeah I mean this has been an
extraordinary roller coaster day and I
think at the end of it is left many
people with questions and frankly
confused about what happened because
what we thought we were seeing was an
armed attempt at overthrowing Vladimir
Putin's regime but it seemed to end with
sort of just dissipating with Vladimir
Putin saying that he would not be
prosecuting evgeny pregosian or any of
the Wagner Fighters I think that what we
can say is that this without a doubt has
left Putin looking weaker and showing it
just simply a very chaotic security
situation in Russia and obviously that
poses major questions now tomorrow and
what we will see going forward with the
war in Ukraine

"Ukrainian units are making gradual but steady tactical progress in key areas," the UK defence ministry said.
Its army has used two weeks of probing to refine its tactics for assaulting "well-prepared Russian defences".
At the same time, Russia has launched offensives in the Luhansk province near Kremina.
"This probably reflects continued Russian senior leadership orders to go on the offensive whenever possible," the UK MoD said.
Russia has made some "small gains" in the in the Serebryanka Forest, but Ukraine has "prevented a breakthrough".Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin will be exiled from Russia to Belarus as part of a truce agreed with Vladimir Putin after an explosive armed rebellion raced to Moscow on Saturday.
The mutiny was called off at the 11th hour as Prigozhin said he wanted to “avoid bloodshed”. Wagner’s forces were about four hours away from Moscow when news of the dramatic turnaround came.
His decision to stop Wagner soldiers storming through Moscow saved him and his men from facing criminal charges over the attempted coup, the Kremlin said.
The move marked a humiliating climbdown for Putin after he earlier vowed to take revenge on those behind the mutiny.
Prigozhin, who sent out a series of audio and video updates during his revolt, has gone silent since the Kremlin announced the deal had been brokered for him to end his march and leave Russia.
Before the mutiny was called off, there was speculation about Putin’s whereabouts after one of his planes was seen leaving Moscow.
Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky said: “The man from the Kremlin is obviously very scared and is probably hiding somewhere.”
