Unity is everything

Stereotypes seem to be something we cannot escape. When I say we I am referring to we, as a people. We all are guilty of stereotyping one another, in fact it’s something that we learn to do, it usually first taught by our family. Stereotyping is basically wrongly believing all people are the same based off certain criteria’s. Once you are old enough to go to school and begin to interact with other culturally diverse people you pick and learn new things about others, and you began to stereotype for yourself. Two groups of people that are constantly facing stereotypes are African Americans and Asian Americans. Blacks will always face being compared to the stereotypes that exist, it’s just something you learn to live with when your black. Is it right? No, but it is just reality. Black people were oppressed for years. Stereotypes date back as far back as the slavery days. Here it is several years later and yet the same group of people are dealing with issues all based on one thing, skin color. Black men are beaten, arrested and even killed because they look suspicious. The counter question is, what truly does it mean to look suspicious? Is it based of the clothes you wear, the music you listen to, or the area in which you reside? Or is it simply just because you are black. This is just one example of how blacks, males in particular are stereotyped. Black women are labeled as loud, ghetto, crazy and angry. Can’t forget welfare and baby mama drama. Of course this isn’t true about all black women but it’s a tough label to break free of. Black people have accomplished so much, but we have a long way to go. When you see a black person on television it is usually music, sport or crime related. Stereotypes are easily distanced in television. For example, I rarely see Asians in movies and television but when I do they are usually playing a stereotypical role. This is not helping; it is teaching us to stereotype. Now a day you might not even be exposed to a certain racial group in real life but because you see how they are portrayed on television it is easy to believe what you see. As Americans we must began to realize how stereotyping others based off their ethnicity or any other criteria is only worsening us a people. We must learn to embrace what is different, because that is what makes us unique. If we all work together and learn to love each other in spite of our differences we will unity is a priority. And inspirational leaders and thinkers tend to agree. These unity quotes are sure to motivate and encourage you to strive for togetherness whenever possible. Martin Luther King, Jr. said it this way, "We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools." True unity is experienced and strived for in a number of ways.

Sometimes unity manifests in a slow and patient commitment to rebuilding a marriage, other times it's bold and energetic–like joining a march for peace. Regardless of how you aim for togetherness in your life unity is a priority. And inspirational leaders and thinkers tend to agree.
