Syria: A Red Sea of History

Syria, a country where history, politics, and power struggles were inseparable parts of its identity. The country was ruled by one family, the Assad family. Around their reign, numerous events, conflicts, and revolutions arose, leading the lives of Syrians down a perilous path.

The Beginning of a New Era:

It all began with Hafez al-Assad, who, on March 12, 1970, took control of Syria through a military coup. By 2018, the Assad government had managed to regain control over some regions, but the country was still divided among countless factions. Kurdish forces, opposition groups, and ISIS continued to establish their dominance over different parts of Syria. Assad’s rule became highly controversial among the Syrian people, as his government faced accusations of chemical attacks and human rights violations. The war caused nearly 500,000 deaths and displaced 12 million people.

What was once a powerful regime eventually collapsed. The fall of the Assad family is recorded as a fiery moment in Syria’s history. This fall could mark the beginning of a new chapter in Syria’s politics. A new government could form, political vacuum could emerge, and power could decentralize. The future of Syria’s path heads toward an uncertain direction.

Post-Fall Prospects:

After the fall of the Assad family, Syria faces a political vacuum. Opposition groups and other forces emerge as contenders for forming a new government. However, Syria's situation becomes incredibly complex, as various factions and powers, both within and outside the country, continue to influence the landscape.
