Then, using clay taken from different regions of the earth, Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُ\ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) moulded Adam (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) to reflect the different complexions and physical traits of his offspring. An authentic narrative found in Tirmidhi 2955 supports this, as said by Allah's Messenger (ﷺ): "In fact, Adam was created by Allah Most High from a handful that He took from the entire earth." Thus, the children of Adam descend in accordance with the earth; among them are the red, white, and black ones, as well as the thin, thick, dirty, and clean ones."

Moreover, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) stated in Sahih Bukhari 3326 that "Allah created Adam, making him 60 cubits tall [...] and everyone who enters Paradise will be in the form of Adam."

According to some academics, this alludes to his height in Paradise, from which he was assigned a suitable height upon his descent to Earth. Nevertheless, Adam (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) might have been 50 or 100 feet tall according to Allah's (ٳُبْحَٰنَهُ\ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) command. For Allah, nothing is impossible (سُبْحَٰنَهُ\ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ). The same hadith also tells us that "since Adam's creation, people's stature has been decreasing."

According to Sahih Muslim 2789, Adam (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) was created on a Friday following 'Asr. Then, about the creation of man, Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُϥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) declared to the angels, "I will, in fact, create a human being from clay." So bow down to him after I have given him the proper proportions and breathed My [made] essence into him." Al-Surah Sad, verses 71–72

The first man, made of clay, was a lifeless figure for forty years. Angels flying by would feel both dread and wonder during this time. Specifically, Iblis was envious of Allah's new creation. "You are nothing!" he would taunt the clay figure of Adam (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) with many strikes. Should I conquer you, I shall

Eventually, the first man would get the soul's infusion. "Fall you down, prostrating yourselves to him after I have created him and breathed into him of My spirit," was the divine order given to all the angels by Allah ( ). (Ayah 72 of Surah As-Sad.) This is how Adam (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) was given life and the beginning of humanity by Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُ\ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ).

Adam (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) sneezed and exclaimed, "All praise is due to Allah" as the soul arrived to him. Thus, he gave thanks to Allah with His approval. Then, "May Allah have mercy upon you, O Adam," was what His Lord said to him. (Jami at-Tirmidhi No. 3367).

The angels all bowed as Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُ\ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) commanded, saying, "so the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, except Iblees; he refused to be with those who prostrated." (Ayat 31-32 in Surah Al-Hijr) It now appears as though Iblis was an angel in this ayah. But Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُ\ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) clarifies this in Surah Kahf, verse 50: "And [mention] when We commanded to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they did, with the exception of Iblees. He belonged to the jinn and disobeyed his Lord's orders." Iblees, like all people, possesses the freedom of will, which is how he was able to reject Allah's instruction.

Afterwards, Iblees prayed to Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُ\ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) saying, "My Lord! Until the Day of their Resurrection, then postpone my death. I will undoubtedly make [disobedience] appealing to everyone on earth since You have misled me, My Lord, and I will deceive everyone with the exception of Your chosen servants." Al-Hijr, surahs 36, 39, and 40

"This is a way [of return] to Me [that is] straight," Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُ\ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) admitted, adding, "You are among those permitted respite (until the Day of Judgement). Truly, My servants, you will have no power over them save from those who adhere to the deviationists. Indeed, Hell is where they are all supposed to end up. It contains seven gates, with a section assigned to each gate. Al-Hijr, Surah 37–38, 41-44)
