life History of Galen of pergamum.
Galen was a son of a wealthy architect ,born in 129 in pergamum ,which was the site of a magnificent shrine of the ancient healing god asclepius. Galen was motivated to study medicine due to the influx of many roman royalties coming to his hometown to receive healing from asclepius. at 16, Galen started learning medicine, he studied in smyrna and alexandria in Egypt, which was then the greatest medical centre of the ancient world .
Galen was considered the father of pharmacy due to his Contribution to the early medicine knowledge. He described the raw materials necessary for the preparation of drugs ,he provided a lot of information on drug manufacturing and mixture ,with the means of evaluation and preservation.
Galen was the first physician to use the pulse as a sign of illness
Galen was the first man to discuss how to approach and treat physiological problems, this attempt would later be called psychotherapy, its book on the cure of the souls passion ,contain how to provide counsel to people with psychological issues to prompt them to reveal their deepest secrets and passion ,and how to eventually heal them .
Galen has a deep interest in anatomy but the roman law prohibited the dissection of humans, which makes Galen opportunity to learn more about human anatomy very low .however , Galen believed that anatomical structures of animals are closely similar to that of humans .
Because of Galens work on animals like monkey and apes only , he made a lot of errors on human anatomy descriptions.
his anatomy of the uterus is largely similar to that of a dog , and this few errors led Galen to stop being regarded as the highest authority in human anatomy.
in 1543 ,the Flemish physician Andreas vesalius showed that Galens anatomy of the body was more animal than human in some aspects. However ,Galens theory of the physiology of the circulatory system remained unchallenged until 1242 when ibn -Al nafis reported his discovery of pulmonary circulation.
Galen was the first human to recognise that there are distinct difference between venous and arterial blood
Galen was the first man to demonstrate that the larynx generate the voice and proved that the voice was controlled by the brain , by using a pig as an experiment in public .
Galen describe the symptoms of fever , fetid breath , cough ,and catarrh.
Galen died in sicily at age 87 in the year 216 and his work have much influence as a medical text, both in latin middle ages and medieval Islam
Authors note : few years when ago when I never got deep in history and deepen my research about the sage world, I believed everything ,modern clinical care and hospitals, knowledge, engineering , crafts , house designs , glasses ,and automation were built from scratch with our modern knowledge and intelligence .(which is not true ) , The truth is everything we are using today to live a peaceful life , easy life and ease out daily life activities has been either built or the foundation has been laid down which we built on It in our modern days . Engineering , robotics, psychotherapy, and a lot of knowledge you won't won't expect from sage philosophers , they shaped our history , they shaped our civilization, they laid the foundation of every computer today like the algorithm and Algebra (Al-kwarizmi) , now , the question is why do we called them dark ages or middle ages ? We called them uncivilised ,not modernised, while they we read their treatise Daily and draw inspiration from their works and books!
I believed their ages should be called the civilised ages , what do you think ?
By the way I'm going to drop more content about the history of the man that invent algorithm, which makes us to worthy to use computers , phones and technology advancement .
Thanks for reading my content, I appreciate it a lot , let me hear your view about this and please subscribe and you can support me by tips also , I appreciate every support . Have a great day .
