In a quiet town surrounded by dry hills and narrow streets lived a man named Abdullah. He was not rich, nor was he famous, but he was known among the people for his honesty, patience, and strong faith in Allah. Abdullah earned his living as a small trader, selling cloth in the local market. His shop was modest, and some days he barely made enough to feed his family, yet he never complained.

Abdullah believed deeply in one verse of the Qur’an:

“Indeed, with hardship comes ease.” (Surah Ash-Sharh)

Every morning before opening his shop, Abdullah would go to the mosque, perform Fajr prayer, and ask Allah for halal rizq and guidance. He taught his children that success was not measured by wealth, but by faith and good character.

One year, the town faced severe difficulties. Trade routes were disturbed, prices rose sharply, and customers stopped coming to the market. Many shopkeepers closed their businesses. Abdullah’s sales dropped almost to nothing. Weeks passed, and his savings slowly disappeared. His wife, Maryam, tried her best to manage the household, but food became scarce.

One night, as Abdullah sat quietly after Isha prayer, Maryam spoke with worry in her voice.

“Abdullah,” she said, “the children are hungry, and we have very little left. Perhaps you should take a loan or find another way.”

Abdullah looked at her with kindness and replied, “I understand your fear, but I do not want to take a path that displeases Allah. If Allah tests us, He will also give us strength. Let us be patient and increase our dua.”

That night, Abdullah raised his hands and prayed with tears in his eyes. He did not ask for riches. He only asked Allah for dignity, halal sustenance, and patience.

The next morning, Abdullah went to the market as usual. His shop was quiet, and the streets felt empty. As he sat there reciting Astaghfirullah softly, an old man approached him. The man looked poor and tired.

“Peace be upon you,” the old man said. “I have walked a long distance and have not eaten since yesterday. Can you help me?”

Abdullah looked into his bag. He had only enough money to buy bread for his children. For a moment, his heart felt heavy. But then he remembered the saying of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ:

“Charity does not decrease wealth.”

Without hesitation, Abdullah gave the man the money he had.

“Please eat and make dua for us,” Abdullah said gently.

The old man’s eyes filled with tears. “May Allah reward you for your kindness. You helped me when you yourself were in need.”

The man left, and Abdullah sat quietly, trusting Allah with a calm heart.

That same afternoon, something unexpected happened. A traveler entered the market looking for high-quality cloth. He stopped at Abdullah’s shop and examined the fabrics carefully.

“These are fine,” the traveler said. “Why are they still here when others sell lower quality?”

Abdullah replied honestly, “I sell with fairness. I do not cheat in weight or price.”

The traveler smiled. “I respect that. I am buying cloth in bulk for a large business in another city. I want to place a big order.”

Abdullah was shocked. He explained that he had limited stock, but the traveler insisted and paid in advance, promising future orders. The amount of money Abdullah received was more than he had earned in months.

With gratitude filling his heart, Abdullah went straight to the mosque and performed two rak’ahs of Shukr. He thanked Allah for His mercy and perfect timing.

Over the next few months, Abdullah’s business slowly grew. He did not become arrogant, nor did he forget the days of hardship. He paid his zakat carefully, helped the poor, and supported orphans in the town. Whenever someone asked him the secret of his success, he would say:

“Patience, honesty, and trust in Allah.”

Years later, Abdullah became one of the most respected traders in the region. Yet his lifestyle remained simple. One evening, his son asked him, “Father, why didn’t you give up when things were so difficult?”

Abdullah smiled and replied, “Because I knew that Allah was testing me, not abandoning me. Hardship is not a sign of failure; it is often a sign that Allah wants to raise your level.”

He then added, “Never lose hope in Allah. Even when doors seem closed, Allah opens ways you cannot imagine.”Patience during hardship brings Allah’s help
