Akhilandeshwari: She Who Is Never Not Broken

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 4 months ago 3 min read

This is a rough chapter in a book I am writing on goddesses that fit the archetype of the Divine Feminine.

Introduction to Akhilandeshwari

Akhilandeshwari is a South Asian Goddess who is known as ‘She Who Is Never Not Broken’. Her name references Her Universal & Cosmic powers: Akhila (Universe) Anda (Universe) Ishwari (Sovereign, Ruler). The word, Akhilandeshwari means ‘always broken’ or ‘never not broken’.

Akhilandeshwari is a goddess in Hinduism representing the concept of being "never not broken." She embodies the idea of transformation through suffering and encourages her devotees to embrace the impermanence of life. Her name translates to "never not broken," which symbolizes the acceptance of brokenness as a path to liberation and deeper understanding.

The Essence of Her Teaching

The quote "everything happens for my liberation, I choose to become only more love" encapsulates the core of Akhilandeshwari's teachings. It suggests that every experience, no matter how challenging or painful, contributes to our growth and liberation. Here’s a breakdown of the themes within this quote:

1. Acceptance of Life’s Challenges: Akhilandeshwari teaches that life is full of ups and downs. Accepting each moment—especially the difficult ones—is essential for growth.

2. Liberation Through Suffering: The idea that suffering can lead to liberation is central to many spiritual traditions. Akhilandeshwari reminds us that through embracing our pain, we can transform it into a source of wisdom and love.

3. Choice of Love: The second part emphasizes personal agency. We have the power to choose love, even in the face of adversity. This choice is a form of empowerment, encouraging a perspective that fosters compassion, both for ourselves and others.

The Symbolism of Akhilandeshwari

Akhilandeshwari is often depicted in art and rituals, embodying the paradox of being broken yet whole. She represents the divine feminine strength that thrives in chaos and instability. Her imagery usually includes symbols of water, which signifies adaptability and flow, highlighting that we, too, can navigate life's turbulent waters.

Practices Inspired by Akhilandeshwari

1. Mindfulness and Presence: Embracing each moment can lead to a deeper understanding of life’s lessons. Meditation and mindfulness practices can help us become more aware of our thoughts and emotions, transforming them into love and acceptance.

2. Emotional Resilience: Developing emotional strength makes it easier to view challenges as opportunities for growth. Cultivating resilience is integral to the philosophy of Akhilandeshwari.

3. Compassionate Living: By choosing to respond to pain and brokenness with love, we create a ripple effect in our communities. This message of love can serve as a guiding light for others, leading to collective healing.

Conclusion

The teachings of Akhilandeshwari are profound and resonate with anyone who has ever faced hardship. By viewing brokenness as a gateway to liberation and empowerment, we can choose love in our response to life's difficulties. Embracing her wisdom invites us to transform our challenges into stepping stones toward a more loving and fulfilled life.
