A Pirate Life

The Raving Siren

The sea.

That's where I would be. That's where I've always wanted to be, and therefore I know the Pirate life would choose me.

I understand that Piracy isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Disease and storms shorten a sailor's life span. But if my era were the eighteenth century, I'd want no other life than one of freedom, rebellion, and adventure.

I'd live an honorable code like Benjamin Hornigold, who showed generosity and mercy to slaves and prisoners aboard the ships he raided. I'd become the "Priate Robin Hood" like Samuel Bellamy, and steal from the abusive rich to give to the less fortunate while freeing captives. I'd have a fearsome reputation like Blackbeard, notorious for his intimidating ships supplied with a devastating amount of canons.

Why a loathsome Pirate and not a Princess or other form of lady?

Simple. There's no freedom in being confined to a life of expectancy. There's no opportunity for adventure with limitations set on my rebellious nature. But most importantly, I'd have no power, no ability to change the world for the better.

And honestly, instead of being the storyteller, I'd rather hear tales told of my epic journeys and daring escapades. I'd become a legend of salt and water. My story will be told for centuries, glamourizing my acts as though I were heroic, and not some defiant agitator.

My name would be branded into history; my chapter in life would never be forgotten.

Vain? Proud? Arrogant much?

Oh, yes. All the things I didn't let myself be in this life, I'd redeem in my next one. I'd embark on a journey to bring my dreams to life, the ones that were once confined to the pages of books and the screens of films. Or the ones I'd been too afraid to pursue. My life would be an epic tale of a woman who didn't let fear of the unknown keep her from the things she wanted. With my new life, I'd liberate those desires and transform them into tangible experiences.

I'd learn the technique of the sword. I'd name my pistols Bloodspiller and Misfortune. My ship will be called The Unseen. I'd do my plunderings in the dead of night, and be long gone by dawn. I'd focus my assaults on slave ships, and liberate the captives. And people would call me The Raving Siren.

Now, this isn't to say that I'd enjoy murder and mayhem, but I'd do it for a purpose. I'd do it to bring freedom to those who have been enslaved and do it with the aim of making a change. People would scream my name in either awe or disdain, depending on their views of my grand scheme. Nevertheless, I'd be proud of my legacy. And I'd challenge any who dares to impede me in my quest as a freedom fighter.

I'd wreak havoc upon the world, fighting for the oppressed and the downtrodden, raging like their avenging angel, striking fear into the hearts of the cruel. It'd be a dangerous life of high stakes, but the rewards would be worth it. I'd be a revolutionary. A savior. In my eyes, and the eyes of those I'd free, I'd be a woman of valor. To me, that would be a life worth living. A life worth dying for, as I know I'd be hunted for the rest of my days. But I'd still be out there, smiling in the face of the storm, ready for whatever was to come.

I know that most, if not all Pirates go down with their ships, but I'd consider an ocean grave better than a cinder or dirt one. Because at least in the ocean, there'd still be an adventure in the afterlife.

At least in my oceanic grave, it'd mean I died fighting for something.

"The sea." This simple opening immediately captivated me. Then you led me to the revelation that this prospective pirate is a woman. Love it! 🏴‍☠️
