Extracirricular is a new k-drama series currently streaming on Netflixs and during my time in isolation, I can tell you that I have been heavily invested into this drama, from the characters to the interesting plot line, this Korean drama series will really keep you glued to your seat! So today I am going to give you a brief summary of this k-drama and why you should be using your free time stuck inside to watch Extracirricular!

This is the kind of show that looks like your average school life drama at first glance, however things take a turn when a girl called, Bae Gyu-ri, starts to get involved with the quiet student, Oh Jisoo and his illegal business that he runs and that no one knows about! As soon as Bae Gyu-ri finds out how much Jisoo is making in this business, she immediately tries to get involved and black mails him to get her involved with his business. what happens next? well that's a mystery, you will have to find that out yourself, as a whole load of madness and drama unveils as soon as Gyu-ri starts to put her nose into business where it is unwanted. Everyone in this show is finding out a way to make some sort of money, but it may get them in trouble and not just with the police.

What makes this series different and interesting from other k-dramas (spoiler warning)

This series surrounds a topic that some people don't know much about, that actually happens in Korea, which is prostitution and protection for them prostitutes. This is not really a topic you would maybe usually see put into a Korean drama, which what got me a bit more interested into this drama as they are hitting topics that are usually very low key and unspoken about in Korea openly and in a positive light, especially as our main character, Ji-soo, who is only a high school student is the mastermind to this whole operation he has going on, which makes you think that you know someone from the outside, but inside there is a lot more, as a lot of other students in his school are not all angels, as he finds out one of his class mate. Seo Minhee, is one of the women he protects and earns money from. It really sparks a light on the dark sides of Korea that maybe people don't see or talk about. Well, no one would as the actions and businesses in this drama are mostly illegal, not something you would speak about in broad daylight on the subway with your best mate.

Also, unlike some dramas or series, you usually find a love and a hate for certain characters, you kind of choose a side I guess. However, in this series I found it extremely hard to stay on any of the characters side, it was like I had a love and hate relationship with all of these characters as there was no good nor bad guy in this series, everyone is pretty much in the same boat. Which personally made this a lot more interesting and dramatic, as there is always something being discovered. The characters starts so simple and just like any average person but they end up causing becoming either someone you hate or someone love...but that may change later on when too many secrets get out. But, the people who portray these characters are amazing actors! The actor that plays Jisoo, also plays a completely different character in another Korean Drama called Itaewon Class (which i may also be talking about soon) and it took me a long time to realize it was actually the same person, which goes to show that his acting skills are magnificent! Because sometimes when you watch an actor in one drama, act in another, it still reminds you of the first character you saw them act as, even if the characters are completely different! The actors did an amazing job in this drama, it deserves so much attention and praise.

In all honesty, I don't want to spoil this series too much and I want people to discover the joys and chaos of this show for themselves. Each episode is nearly an hour long, so it is a great show to get attached to and waste time watching, but its not a waste of a watch, it is very worth your while! Hopefully I will be doing more of these soon, so stayed tuned for more of these if you enjoy reading this one!

Note: This series does have sensitive topics such as, self harm, panic disorders, abuse and the use of physical violence. So if they may affect you in any way, maybe watch it with a family member or loved one to make you feel more comforted whilst watching this master piece of a series. Make sure to look after yourself first though and if you do experience any of these issues in your life, seek help, from someone you trust.
