Why my life is not boring
having to do the exact same thing for years at a time

For the past 4 or even 6 years since I graduated from university and started working, my life has been pretty much monotonous. You can summarize each of my days down to a few activities; going to work, going back home, sleeping. That has been my life now for over 5 years at least, of course there is the occasional party, but I can count those on one hand.
This is a pretty boring life, having to do the exact same thing for years at a time and even if you do enjoy your job, being stuck in what looks like an infinite loop can be challenging.
It might feel boring until you remember that it's the same thing for pretty much everyone out there.
What makes the difference between a boring life and an interesting one is simply if we are doing what we are passionate about and actually making progress.
When that’s the case then we end up with a boring life which is easier to do than you might think. It doesn’t take much to have a boring life; misunderstand your passion, don’t make progress, and there you go. What people often think a happy life is all about is when they get to do things which makes them happy at the moment; going to the club, partying, dates, having fun, love etc. You can think about anyone you believe has an interesting life, very often it's not going to be that uncle of yours who spends his life in a 9–5 job but it's rather going to be that cousin who gets to flex his fancy clothes all over social media or that friend who gets to party every night. Far from me to say that this isn’t a happy life because it might as well be for them, but as it turns out, some people consider other things as being part of a happy life. One of those things is being able to increase your social status.
Finding Happiness
While there are some people who believe happiness resides in moments of instant dopamine release. Others believe happiness relies on having accomplishments which not just increase your social status but also create a future where you get to do the things you want. To put it simply, there are some people who would rather starve all year long. They would remain isolated in a very dark corner of their rooms if it meant for them to be able to start a business or gain some status in society. Meanwhile, there are other people who would rather spend all of their income drinking with friends and having the most social interactions they can possibly get.
There isn’t a right or wrong, it basically comes down to what you prefer doing, either ways you end up happy. I personally choose to increase my social status through hard work rather than some temporary parties which will not provide any lasting value. That’s why in as much as my life or the life of a nerd might look boring. We are actually increasing our social status, slowly but steadily, by doing things which may not be visible right now, but would take all their meaning in the future.
My life is one of hard work and grinding, very often times in solitude. But there is a purpose behind it, one which would be difficult to explain right now but which will surely take all its meaning if and when my plans come to fruition. That’s precisely what I’m looking forward to and what keeps me motivated to continue working. I think a lot of our lives are already boring, especially when we lack purpose. Without that, you are just left grasping for anything which can give you any form of solace. It's possible to be bored even when you are surrounded by countless persons or when you have a lot to do, the way most people are able to get out of it is by giving themselves a purpose to pursue.
Conclusion
I’ll agree that my life can be looked at as being boring by others, after all I do pretty boring stuff. I spend all day in front of a computer hitting keys, reading books and working on some basic projects, but the way I see it is different. I see the potential hidden behind all of my actions, and that's what makes my life interesting for me, which ultimately begs the question.
Are you trying to make your life interesting for you or for others?
