Venom: The Last Dance – Tom Hardy’s Final Symbiotic Showdown

Can Eddie Brock and Venom go out with a bang, or does this finale fizzle out?

By Kevin HudsonPublished 8 months ago 3 min read

🕷️ Introduction: A Long Road with Symbiotes

When Venom (2018) hit theaters, no one expected the bizarre anti-hero to carve out his own place in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Followed by Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), the franchise continued its chaotic yet entertaining streak. Now, in 2024, Venom: The Last Dance brings Eddie Brock’s tumultuous relationship with Venom to an explosive close. But does this film deliver the symbiotic satisfaction fans deserve?

🧬 The Plot: Running, Hiding, Fighting

The movie picks up with Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and Venom on the run — hunted by humans and aliens alike. Their relationship is more strained than ever, with both struggling to coexist. The government-backed organization Imperium, led by Rex Strickland (Chiwetel Ejiofor), wants to harness symbiotes for military use.

Deep beneath Area 51, a terrifying truth emerges: the resurrection of Knull, the god of the symbiotes. His monstrous creations, Xenophages, are unleashed to retrieve the Codex — an ancient symbiotic remnant stored inside Venom. The chase begins.

As the Earth teeters on the edge of an alien invasion, Eddie must choose: surrender Venom to save himself or risk everything to save humanity.

🔥 Performance Highlights

🎭 Tom Hardy – Still the Symbiote King

Hardy's dual performance as both Eddie and Venom remains the franchise’s strongest asset. The internal dialogues, comedic bickering, and occasional emotional beats feel genuine and layered.

🧑‍🚀 Chiwetel Ejiofor – Wasted Potential?

As a morally gray antagonist, Ejiofor brings depth to Rex Strickland. But his motivations and backstory are underdeveloped, leaving much to be desired.

🎨 Visuals, CGI & Direction

Director Kelly Marcel, who also penned the screenplay, amps up the visual storytelling. From underground symbiote labs to Knull’s cosmic lair, the film dazzles in IMAX. The CGI symbiotes are grotesque and fluid, although a few action sequences feel overstuffed and dizzying.

🎧 Soundtrack & Atmosphere

The score, a mix of electronic eeriness and gothic tones, fits the film’s darker tone. The theme song "Symbiotic End" by Imagine Dragons feels both epic and melancholic — a fitting tribute to a misunderstood hero.

🧠 Deeper Themes: Identity, Sacrifice, and Isolation

Beyond the action, the film tackles deeper concepts:

Eddie’s Isolation: No friends, no love, just a talking alien in his head. The emotional weight is heavier in this chapter.

Sacrifice: In a climactic act, Venom separates from Eddie and absorbs the Codex to stop Knull — a final, devastating goodbye.

Redemption: Eddie, once a disgraced journalist, ends the trilogy as a reluctant hero.

⚖️ Strengths vs. Weaknesses

Strengths Weaknesses

Tom Hardy’s performance Plot complexity/confusion

Emotional payoff Weak villain development

Strong visuals & effects Rushed third act

Unique tone (dark comedy meets horror) Underutilized side characters

📊 Box Office & Reception

Global Box Office: $478.9 million (still profitable, but lowest in the trilogy)

Rotten Tomatoes: 59% critics, 74% audience

Metacritic: 52

Critics were divided. Many praised the emotional finale but criticized the uneven pacing and weak villain arc. Fans appreciated the continuation of the Eddie-Venom dynamic but felt the story could’ve been tighter.

🗣️ Fan Reactions (Real Comments)

— @fanboy2099

“Still better than Morbius. Just saying.”

📝 Final Verdict

Venom: The Last Dance isn’t a perfect film. It’s messy, chaotic, and at times tries to do too much. But at its core, it’s a fitting sendoff to one of Marvel’s most complicated anti-heroes. Tom Hardy’s final outing is raw, emotional, and laced with dark humor — exactly what fans signed up for.
