The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Christine admits her marriage to Paul is over

40 years of history with Doug Davidson ended off screen which is an insult to the character, the actor, and the fans.

Doug Davidson's character is now history on Y&R

Finally, The Young and the Restless has made a move to bring closure to Doug Davidson's beloved character Paul Williams. On Tuesday Christine Williams (Lauralee Bell) told Lauren Baldwin (Tracey E Bregman) that her marriage to Paul did not work out and fans know this has been coming since 2018 when then-executive producer Mal Young stopped giving Davidson screen time.

This just goes to show that the power of Y&R fans does not always make a difference as for the past 5 years there have been online petitions, complaints, and social media sites dedicated to bringing Paul back to Genoa City. It has all been in vain and those who watch the CBS soap have no idea why. A few weeks back Davidson said he might give an interview with a trusted source and tell his side of the story which would give some clarity to the situation.

Bell has not spoken out publically about the firing of her on-screen spouse and long-time cast mate and the only Y&R actor who has said anything has been Eric Braden who portrays Victor Newman. He made a comment that "Dougie Davidson" was not difficult and should not have been treated so badly and if you look at what happened during the past 5 years it's clear that the top brass had it in for Paul and his portrayer.

Paul was put on life support

First, they stopped using Davidson and Young hired Jordi Vilasaro as Rey Rosales who spoke of the chief often but he was never on screen. In one episode Rey was shown sitting in Paul's chair at the GCPD and spinning around. This infuriated fans who thought Rey was going to become the police chief and replace Paul. Viewers were angry that nothing was done to commemorate Davidson's 40 years on The Young and the Restless as was done with other cast members who reched 30 and 40-year milestones.

Davidson had to endure his character l and Christine walking together through the gallery of Victor's accomplishments when he was celebrated for his time in Genoa City which coincided with Braden's 40 years on the soap. There was also an episode where Paul and Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) entered a restaurant wearing white shorts and tops and talking about having just played racketball. This was something they had done decades earlier and fans felt that Young was implying that Paul was a relic of Genoa City's past.

The final nail in the coffin

When Michael Damian returned as Danny Romalatti he and Christine shared some moments where it was clear their feelings for one another were still there. Some Y&R fans thought this was disrespectful to Paul and later his daughter Heather Stevens (Bloom Vail) and granddaughter Lucy Romalatti ( Lily Brooks Obrient) returned to town talking about him even though he was not around.

Rumors began circulating at the beginning of 2023 that Paul was going to die during the 50th-anniversary celebration of The Young and the Restless and fans began complaining. Finally, after Heather left town Christine said that Paul had retired from the police force and gone to visit Heather and Lucy and viewers knew the end was near. Many believed Chris would soon announce that the marriage was over and on Tuesday she did.

If Doug Davidson does not give an interview those who watch The Young and the Restless will never know what really went on behind the scenes. Judging from the shoddy way the character has been written off as if he never existed it's clear someone's feathers were ruffled. Josh Griffith is the executive producer and head writer but he has not said one word about Paul Williams or his portrayer. These recent decisions are all on him and although the character was not killed off he might as well have been.
