Superman and Lois TV Series 2021 ON THE CW
THE STORY

After years of facing supervillains, monsters and alien invaders, the world's most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent and comic books' famed journalist Lois Lane come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever -- dealing with being working parents in today's society. Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois worry about whether their sons, Jonathan and Jordan, could inherit their father's Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older. Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang and her Fire Chief husband, Kyle Cushing. The adults aren't the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle's rebellious daughter, Sarah. Of course, there's never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois' father, Gen. Samuel Lane looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment's notice.
Superman & Lois is an American superhero drama television series developed for The CW by Todd Helbing and Greg Berlanti, based on the DC Comics characters Superman and Lois Lane, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch star as the title characters Clark Kent / Superman, a costumed superhero, and Lois Lane, a journalist for the Daily Planet. The series is set in the Arrowverse, sharing continuity with the other television series of the franchise.
The series was announced in October 2019 and was ordered to series in January 2020. Filming began in October 2020 and was expected to conclude in June 2021. Superman & Lois premiered on February 23, 2021, and was renewed for a second season in March.[1]

Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing: Lana's husband and Smallville's fire chief. A callous and abrasive alcoholic, he carries a chip on his shoulder about living in a small town, with imagined grievances about large cities; is contemptuous of the press; is pro-big business, at any cost.[5]
Inde Navarrette as Sarah Cushing: Kyle and Lana's "wild child" daughter who befriends the Kent boys and serves as Jordan's love interest.[6]
Wolé Parks as John Henry Irons / The Stranger: A mysterious visitor from an unidentified parallel Earth who is hellbent on proving to the world that it no longer needs Superman.[7][8]
Parks' image was also used to portray Earth-Prime's John Henry Irons, who is mentioned to have been killed in action.
Adam Rayner as Tal-Rho / Morgan Edge: "An intelligent, eloquent and impassioned self-made mogul" and CEO of Edge EnerCorp who has taken an interest in Smallville, raising suspicion from Lois.[9] He is later revealed to be Kal-El's half brother through Lara Lor-Van and Zeta-Rho with plans to restore the Kryptonian race. Jack Rehbein and Ben Cockell portray a 10-year-old Tal-Rho and a 19-year-old Tal-Rho, respectively.

Jill Teed as Sharon Powell: A woman whose son was offered a job by Morgan Edge and later gets targeted by Subjekt-11.
Clayton James as Derek Powell: A miner and Sharon's son who took a job by Morgan Edge. After being killed in an accident, Derek was revived by Morgan and Leslie using X-Kryptonite that gave him Kryptonian abilities.
Brendan Fletcher as Thaddeus Killgrave: A mad scientist and old enemy of Superman who works with Intergang.
Robel Zere as Dabney Donovan: An associate of Morgan Edge who assists in his experiments with X-Kryptonite.
Wendy Crewson as Dr. Wiles: A Department of Defense (DOD) therapist whom Lois sees.
Charles Jarman as Ron Troupe: A reporter from the Daily Planet during Clark's early days.
A.C. Peterson as Zeta-Rho: The father of Tal-Rho and ex-husband of Lara Lor-Van. Like Jor-El, a copy of his consciousness is encoded virtually as an A.I. within Tal-Rho's desert hideout in hologram form.
The series was announced in October 2019 and executive produced by Todd Helbing, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecter and Geoff Johns with Helbing penning the script for the series.[3] On January 14, 2020, The CW officially ordered Superman & Lois to series.[29] The first season will consist of 15 episodes.[30] The series Everwood and Friday Night Lights served as inspirations for the series, given they were also family dramas. Helbing explained many aspects of Superman & Lois were approached as if it were a feature film, such as the aspect ratio, cinematography, and production design, saying, "We are competing with shows on cable and streamers…we wanted to be able to do that and offer audiences something of equal quality".[2] On March 2, 2021, The CW renewed the series for a second season.[1]
In November 2020, series writer Nadria Tucker announced she was fired from the show, claiming it was for "pushing back on racist and sexist storylines." She also claimed she worked on all 15 episodes of the first season, but was only paid for 13 of them.[31][32][33] In an statement, WBTV claimed that "Warner Bros. Television did not exercise its option to extend her [contract] for additional episodes" and that "WBTV was transparent and told her why it was not picking up her option."[34]
Speaking to the lack of greater Arrowverse connections in the first season, Helbing felt there was "this weird set of circumstances where, because of production or timing or COVID, everything in the show that was related to the Arrowverse has gotten pulled out". He added that as development progressed further away from the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover, "it felt like we were opening a can of worms every time we had to explain the connection", though he was hopeful more connections or proper crossovers could occur in the second season.[35]
Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch were signed on to reprise their roles as Clark Kent and Lois Lane from Supergirl.[3] In February 2020, Jordan Elsass and Alexander Garfin were cast as Clark and Lois' sons Jonathan Kent and Jordan Kent, respectively.[4] In April, Dylan Walsh was cast as Samuel Lane. Walsh replaces Glenn Morshower, who previously recurred in the role on Supergirl.[10] Emmanuelle Chriqui was also cast as Lana Lang,[11] along with Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing.[5] The next month, Wolé Parks was cast as "The Stranger" while Inde Navarrette was cast as Sarah Cushing.[7][6] Additionally, Adam Rayner portrays Morgan Edge, who was previously portrayed by Adrian Pasdar in Supergirl.[9]
In October 2020, Sofia Hasmik and Stacey Farber were cast in the recurring roles of Chrissy Beppo and Leslie Larr, respectively.[14][13] In December 2020, David Ramsey was revealed to be reprising his Arrow role of John Diggle in addition to directing at least one episode in the series.[17]
Production on the pilot was expected to begin on March 23, 2020, in Vancouver, British Columbia, and conclude on May 14.[36] However, on March 13, 2020, plans to shoot a pilot were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic,[37][38] to either June or July of that year.[38] In late July 2020, Warner Bros. Television planned for the Vancouver-based production to restart in late August.[39] Filming began on October 21, 2020 and is expected to conclude on June 14, 2021.[40] The series is filmed on location in Surrey, British Columbia.[41][42]
Superman & Lois premiered on February 23, 2021,[43] with an encore presentation on February 27, on the cable network TNT, followed by the special, Superman & Lois: Legacy of Hope, which features behind the scenes footage, interviews with the cast, and special guests discussing the legacy of Superman.[44] CTV Sci-Fi Channel airs the series in Canada.[45] After a delay in production caused by COVID-19, the series went on hiatus after the fifth episode, during which the sixth season of Supergirl took over the series' timeslot.[46]
On Rotten Tomatoes, the series has an approval rating of 87% based on 39 reviews, with an average rating of 7.76/10. The website's critical consensus reads, "Though it may be a bit too grounded for some viewers, Superman & Lois draws strength from unexpected places – without skimping on the action – to carve its own path in a crowded superhero universe."[47] On Metacritic, it has a weighted average score of 64 out of 100 based on 15 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[48]
The pilot episode was the most-streamed premiere out of all CW shows.[49] It was also the second-best premiere of any series since the debut of Batwoman in October 2019.[50]
What a show. It encapsulates everything superman is about in the comics. His boy scout attitude, his regard for human life even when he fights, his ability to see good in people, etc. Something the Man of steel movie fails spectacularly at despite stunning visuals. One of the lines that show the creators know the character well is when Lois Lane says that superman is more than just powers and even if he doesn't say it, every action he takes speaks it again and again. One of my best fight moments was in episode 5 when he is chasing a villain who starts fires and he takes time to put them off while chasing the villain. Thats who a boy scout is. He's not batman (although I absolutely adore him and he's probably my favourite hero) he's different, something the creators take into account brilliantly. Also, when he's not fighting and being superman, Clark Kent is so amazingly portrayed and the writing as well as the actor playing (Tyler) him have set the standards with beautiful displays. And I'm shocked about how well I care about the other characters in the story. We came to see supes of course, but the show keeps me so emotionally invested in the other characters including Lois Lane who shines in her own unique way. She didn't need to beat a bunch of guys, yet, she is such a strong woman and the portrayal is feminism done right, in my opinion. The dynamic between Jonathan and his brother is so heart-warming showing the imperfection of families but their fundamental love for one another. The show even gets me to like Captian Luthor. This show is an all-round spectacular show. I hope this continues
Okay—lemme just say I didn’t have high hopes for the pilot of the new TV Show, Superman and Lois. This is because with the Superheroes of the CW there are many hits and many misses. Supergirl Season 1 and 2 were great. The Supergirl Pilot is amazing. This one is Super Amazing. I know, I know, I shouldn’t have capitalized Super and Amazing. But lemme tell ya! This is something else. The show runners have obviously sat down and given this series some real thought. This is the first CW Superhero show that feels like it is taking place in the real world. The show runners seem to have borrowed from Stan Lee’s genius and made Superman a hero with real world problems so we can relate to him. I mean come on, which one of us dads and moms haven’t felt the ache of work pulling us away from our kids when they need us around and the hurt we feel when our kids are hurting. Which one of us hasn’t had to move our kids where we think that it will be better for the whole family. Which one of us isn’t stretched between having to put in overtime knowing that we need family time more—but the work is pressing and has to be done. This is the reality that has been brought into Superman and Lois. Christopher Reeve made Superman human and this show makes him someone who can be hurt without kryptonite.
This pilot is movie quality. It is cinematic and has the best VFX I’ve seen on a Superhero TV show. There are twists and turns, deep emotion. It has good values, great music and artful direction by movie maker Lee Toland Krieger. The acting is excellent and Clark Kent and Lois Lane are given depth by Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch. The Kent’s twin teenage boys, played by Alex Garfin and Jordan Elsass are realistically portrayed. The writing is grand. They put together an intriguing supporting cast and even gave us a Smallville TV series moment near the end. It was wonderful to see the streets of Cloverdale, BC become Smallville again. Made my day. One time I got to see Tom Welling and Kristen Kreuk film a scene in Cloverdale when Smallville was still on the air. Very cool.
The only thing that might be a problem for these guys is that they have set the bar Super high with this pilot. Here’s hoping that they can keep it up. Two thumbs way up! Gotta say, i'm loving reading the one star reviews for people who have either never picked up a superman comic or never bothered to watch the show they seem to dislike so much. As a long time Supes-fan, this is probably one of my favorite modern renditions of The Man of Steel and it's pretty obvious the people involved with the writing are avid fans themselves, they have tiny easter eggs and nods to things in comics and other superman stories. This is an already established superman who is trying to spend less time saving the world and more time with his sons, one of which has begun to show signs of super powers. It's definitely a Drama show though, so if you're expecting tons of action or adventure than this just isnt for you. The acting is pretty phenomenal though, and makes for very realistic and emotional scenes. Great cast. I felt ify about Tulloch as Lane at first, based soley on her appearance and that she doesn't look like the character, but her acting ability and the writing of the scenes they put her in won me over to her character. She makes a great mother of super powered teens and im very much looking forward to season 2.
Today is February 23rd, 2021. Today is The Day the world enters into a new era of Hope. Today is The Day the world enters into a new era of Kindness and Happiness. Today, is THE Day, the world enters into a new era of Superman And Lois! The ARROWVERSE, started by one of, if not, THE Greatest Shows To Ever Exist, ARROW, has now paved the path for Superman And Lois into The ARROWVERSE and our world.
It honestly gives me goosebumps to even imagine a Superman And Lois show with the brilliant and most-times-perfect writing of the people behind ARROW & The Flash! And it plain out nearly paralyzes me (in the best way possible) that the day we get THAT Superman And Lois show, is TODAY!
I just know it's going to be perfect. Because, Tyler Hoechlin IS Superman. The GREATEST Superman. He evokes hope and resembles to me, the epitome of what it means to be Superman. And we have Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. Whom she is absolutely perfect as, as the witty and beautiful reporter that fell in love with Clark. Gaaah and because of the greatest crossover to ever exist, Crisis On Infinite Earths. they now have a family! And we have Jonathan Kent And Jordan Kent! To think we're going to have the PERFECT Superman Show AT LAST is just...well the only words I can use are...Breathtaking & Beautiful!
In short, I am Super-Excited and simply cannot WAIT for the PERFECT Superman And Lois show from The One And Only ARROWVERSE!
and P.S, I know Grant Gustin is also beyond excited for Superman And Lois since Superman was his favorite hero growing up so I'm glad The Flash gets his dream now! And that he was one of the reasons for it happening!
Well, I think this particular show is very different from other shows in this franchise,,although I didn't expect the show would be really good. First of all they have done a great job with the casting , not only the leading stars but supporting cast too. Truth be told I never thought Tyler Hoechlin would be able to have such a mature and solid performance.Bitsie Tulloch has always been a good actress, not a surprise here. Also the supporting cast, specially the new faces,,Inde Navarette and Alexander Garfin,, are really brilliant. The plot isn't just a kicking around superhero stuff , there is also very good drama and some exciting mysteries, keeping the show very dynamic and interesting. You might consider watching this show even if you are not fond of the franchise. Just give it a try, it has a lot to offer. Maybe five stars is a bit too much but four stars won't do the justice for sure. So five stars it is.
I'm usually disappointed by anything live-action DC, but after these first 3 episodes I'm feeling really good about this one. The storyline is intriguing, the acting is great all around, the cinematography, art direction, editing, score, and directing are 9/10. The characters are complex and relatable - I mean we look at our parents as flawed-heroes, and sometimes we're disappointed with ourselves when we can't live up to some standard they've set. The tone of this series so far gives me the feel of what Stranger Things does - it's mysterious and nostalgic. Watch that first episode, you won't be disappointed.
Huge fan of Superman and all the previous shows (Smallville, Lois and Clark) also a huge fan of the arrow verse (Flash, Supergirl).
Starting out watching the pilot episode and right away there was this gritty, real life feel to it, which right off the bat reminded me of Smallville. The episode does a fast recap of the earlier years of Clark, and brings you up to speed to modern superman, together with Lois they now have a family, 2 twin teenage boys. Clark being the emblem of hope, and decency, is struggling with being a father, and is extremely relatable. There are sad undertones of guilt, and regret as he struggles to protect all of humankind and to also balance family and being a father. I think the overall tone of the show so far is very relatable to the adult fan base that has grown up with the stories and comic books.
This may turn out to be the best arrow-verse show yet, there is just something about it, and I'm dyeing to see the next episode.
I had to look at the poster a few times to confirm that it is an Arrowverse show. As a huge fan of Superman I wasn't a fan of what the CW and Supergirl did to Superman in those past shows. This however feels like something new, something different . The story telling is much much better, visuals look really impressive for CW and I love the movie like look and feel by having it shot with anamorphic lens. Would have preferred a slightly brighter colour tone but not complaining about the darker tone. Two episodes in and it's fast becoming one of my favourite comic book TV series. Smallville had been by favourite over the years and this feels like a great successor to Smallville. It has its flaws here and there and will most likely have a ton of boring filler episodes later on but overall I am impressed and glad Superman gets a different story this time around.
Awesome show!! Bitsie Tulloch playing Lois Lane is some premium acting. She's a true natural to the character. I absolutely love the show's spin for the story of Superman/Clark Kent. His inner-battle of facing his fatherly duties of teenage boys, his lacking husbandly duties towards Lois, and as well as his obligatory responsibilities of saving the world is just all a huge weight for Clark. Personally I rather would have seen Tom Welling reprise his role as Clark Kent, but Tyler Hoechlin is pretty good. The teenage Kent sons are great at displaying unruly boys, but I'm glad to see that they both ultimately love each other and their parents like a family should. The show is great at evening the story-arc between the boys, Lois, and Clark. I wish we saw Captain Luthor more often, that whole arc of him being from a different reality is mind-blowing. I hope more people like and watch this show more, I'd hate to see it get canceled
A really good Superman live action content I've seen in years. Tyler Hoechlin nailed the role he really IS Superman and Clark Kent, his chemistry with Bitsie Tulloch's Lois is on par with the classics. I can't believe this is a CW show first and it's for the better they didn't reference a single thing from Arrowverse. This feels like it's set in a completely different Earth as if their lives are rebooted over here, whichever this Earth is. I don't know if that's really the case at this point.
The CG is quite good. There are nods to the first issue of Superman comics, classic animations like Max Fleischer cartoons, Smallville and other Superman content over the years which I thought was a really cool fan service moments for fans like me.
Improvement in writing and dialogues makes this series stand tall in the CW's line up of DC shows. Superman is often considered a difficult superhero to write stories for but in this one they somehow manage to bring him down to Earth. Clark Kent addresses the difficulties in his life as a father and as a human being while battling the evil of the world. I found grounded approach in the first episode not to mention the real life issues it deals with.
Intriguing villain, a story for Lois to chase around in Smallville and two teenage sons, these are interesting choices for Superman and I can tell the latter is going to be an important aspect of this series. I hope the quality stays the same until the end. Overall a promising pilot, I'd rate it 8.5/10.
