In this episode "Tea at the Treedome" I will be discussing the third segment of the first episode of Spongebob Squarepants. It aired alongside "Help Wanted" and "Reef Blower" on May 1, 1999. I will not be a separate review on "Reef Blower" as it was two minutes long and it had no real dialogue other than the subtitle "You" coming from Spongebob. The short segment is about Spongebob using a reef blower, which is a sea version of a leaf blower. And this happens because Squidward throws a shell from his lawn onto Spongebob’s. He is understandably not happy at it and gets his reef blower to blow it back onto Squidward’s lawn, which he successfully does after several tries. All it took was the reef blower blowing sand everywhere, the sand being sucked up by the reef blower and the reef blower exploding, causing the sand to fly all over Squidward’s house. Now onto the episode "Tea at the Treedome", as I mentioned before it marks the debut of Sandy Cheeks, voiced by Carolyn Lawrence, also known as the voice of Cindy Vortex from the Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius franchise. Carolyn Lawrence uses a Southern drawl, which is significant for Sandy as the character is from Texas. It has been long stated that Sandy and Spongebob are meant to be just friends, despite mutual feelings and sometimes attraction, but it goes no further.
In the opening scene, Spongebob is jellyfishing, his favorite pastime that is essential to the character and plays a huge role in the show. Then he sees Sandy wrestling with a large clam, which he also points to the audience. He goes out to help her but she manages to fight off the clam after it comes close to eating Spongebob. He is instantly impressed by her skills and she appreciates him helping her out. They introduce themselves to each other and Sandy invites him over to her place for tea and cookies after a brief discussion about air. He gladly accepts the invitation and a map to where she lives but he turns to Patrick for advice about her after describing her in full detail. Their conversation involves a misunderstanding when Patrick believes that Sandy "put on airs" is a way of being fancy. So Patrick tells him he needs to have one pinky out to be fancy with the advice of "when in doubt, pinky out." The next day he goes over Sandy’s treedome with his pinky held high and Patrick watching him from afar. Sandy lets him in and he sees how nice it is but there is a problem. He looks around and notices there is no air while Sandy is not in her spacesuit as she needs it to breathe underwater due to being a land squirrel. She had made Texas tea and cookies for them to have. While she is showing off the house, Spongebob desperately looks for water as he is quickly dehydrating. He goes to a birdbath but that quickly fails and then he gets flowers for her. He also asks for water but she goes to get a vase for the flowers. Spongebob tries to leave to get water but after remembering Patrick’s advice, he stays. He and Sandy continue to talk and the timer for the cookies goes off. While she is checking the cookies, Spongebob is resisting the temptation of having water until he says the now famous line "I need it." He tries leaving again but Patrick enters telling him he is doing fine. That is until Patrick starts to feel sweaty and he is panting hard. Then he shouts another iconic line "What kind of place is this?" They both try to leave with no avail. Sandy comes out with the tea and cookies and screams at the sight of them both dehydrated. She then gives them helmets filled with water and they all have the tea and cookies, with Spongebob and Patrick having their pinkies out.

Never saw the first episode of SpongeBob. Not really a SpongeBob fan, but when I was babysitting the young kids watched it. Good job though.
