Why Do Celebrities Feel The Need To Make Political Messages At Awards?

Since as long as I can remember the Oscars, Grammy's and Emmy awards have had over the years actors who come up on stage to accept awards and make political speeches. The 70's had Jane Fonda, Gregory Peck and others. In the 80's we still had Hanoi Jane making speeches as well as other actors.

The 90's had Barbra Streisand, Ed Assner, Robert Redford, Fonda again, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Daryl Hannah and others. Last night at the Grammy's we had much of the same. Young Billie Ellish said we are all living on stolen land. Really? Then why do you live in a house on stolen land. Not only a house, but a very big one for someone as young as you! Bad Bunny gave his acceptance speech in Spanish; pretty rude when most of the people at the Crypto Center speak English. Trevor Noah who always favors minorities during the four years he has been hosting may get sued for opening up his dumb mouth and accusing people of things they maybe didn't do. Kehlani also weighed in on his opinion about ICE as well.

The thing is that actors have a tendency of getting behind a cause then move on, ie. Ukraine last year, climate change four years ago., and now ICE. The liberal elites never said anything about Obama nor Tom Homan when Obama was in office, but now it is all the talk amongst Hollywood.

Ricky Gervase at The Hollywood Foreign Press Awards said it best "Accept your little award and F off". he went on to state that actors are in no position to lecture anyone, that they have no idea what the real world is like. He is 100% right! Actors have no clue about the real world and most of them aren't even that smart to begin with. Sure, many have gone to Ivy League schools but it is one thing to study acting at those schools and quite another to study other subjects. When you look at an Alec Baldwin, he was thrown out of a third rate college. Streisand, a high school graduate; Cher, same thing. Do you really think I want to hear their opinions on anything?

The fact is that people no longer tune into the Academy Awards any longer. The ratings for the Oscars has plummeted over the years; and why? Because no one wants to hear your political views! Even in music, do we want to hear Bono lecture us when he lives in war torn Northern Ireland? Do we want to hear from Springsteen or Little Steven? No. The same goes for Paul McCartney and John Lennon when he was alive. You're musicians and actors, you know little about history, government… stick to your craft!

The question becomes the: why do they talk about politics? Do they feel that their opinion matters more? Do they think that they are superior to the working people who make them rich? Do I really care what Peter Dinklage thinks? He passes himself off as this great Shakespearean English actor. Born in New Jersey he caught a break in a small role and latched on to movie stories that ran concurrently over the years. The same can be said for Mark Ruffalo. Have you ever seen him or John Leguizamo on stage? Don't bother if you haven't, they both absolutely suck on stage!

The sooner that entertainers realize that they are just that, entertainers, the better off that they will be. As a drama critic I never held a persons political views against them. If they are good, I will give them a good review (I'm not sure the left can say that). Actors like Robert DeNiro have lost a lot of money over the years because of their outbursts. People refuse to see movies and concerts by outspoken actors and musicians. Part of the reason I only saw Springsteen once is because I don't want to hear his politics in concert. I want to be entertained and not lectured by a high school graduate. So the message here today is shut the F… Up!
