Scary Disney: The Aristocats: Catnapping, The Train Scene and Edgar
The scary and horrifying moments from The Aristocats

The Aristocats. A tale of a family of aristocratic cats who are abducted by their butler who wants his mistresses fortune which is going to go to the cats. They come across an alley cat who helps them get home and get rid of their butler. We are left with a great musical number, Everybody wants to be a cat which we’d be singing for years to come.
After Edgar the butler overhears that his mistresses fortune will go to the cats, he drugs them and scoops them into a basket and drops them near a river. He goes back home happy, but his mistress however is devastated which he really doesn’t care about, he just wants the money. The cats wake up the next morning and meet an alley cat, Thomas O’Malley. He agrees to take them home so they set off. They come across some wild characters on the way then when they get home they have a fight with Edgar, they push him into a packing case which is then set to go to Timbuktu. They all live happily ever after. Well, except for Edgar. A sequel for the film was unfortunately cancelled, that would have been an interesting watch. A few scary details stand out in the movie giving a slight dose of horror.
1. Catnapping
2. The Train Scene
3. Edgar
1. Catnapping
The main theme of the movie is catnapping. After Edgar learns he won’t be getting any money he kidnaps the cats and abandons them by a river. Realistically Edgar had every chance to kill the cats, but instead took the soft approach and left them out in the cold instead, but then again there wouldn’t have been a story. He returns home and pretends like nothing has happened. He offers his mistress some help, but not a great lot of help and goes back into the house. The very thought of Edgar stealing the cats just so he would gain his mistresses money is pure evil. He even tries to stab Thomas O’Malley with a pitch fork he is that desperate. Thank God he was the one who was shipped off to Timbuktu. The picture says everything we need to know about Edgar, a cruel, evil and insane man.

2. The Train Scene
After Duchess and her kittens come across Thomas O’Malley they set on their journey home. They jump into the back of a milk truck and hitchhike for a small while. The driver notices them in the back, he freaks out so they all jump out. They come across a railroad trestle which they must cross. Whilst moving over, a real train comes over the bridge shaking up the whole scene frightening the cats. Marie falls into the water whilst the others save themselves, Thomas O’Malley jumps into the water to save her. A few seconds of sheer madness. The look of fear and worry in their faces says everything you need to know.

3. Edgar
Edgar Balthazar, the villain of the movie. After hearing he is losing money to cats, he plans to get rid of them. His first evil doing. So he then sedates them by putting sleeping pills in their milk, his second evil doing. Then he takes them into the country and abandons them, his third evil doing. The cats return home and he throws a sack over them intending to ship them to Timbuktu, his fourth evil doing. He ends up in a fight with Thomas O’Malley and his alley cats trying to hurt them, his fifth evil doing. He doesn’t look scary on the outside, he’s just evil and messed up in the head. He’s the butler we love to hate. In the end Mistress Adelaide thinks that Edgar left, if only she knew the truth that the cats really got rid of him, they really are clever cats. The picture says all we need to know about Edgar, hungry with greed.
