Success is not always glamorous. Behind every hit song, there is an artist’s untold story and their struggles. The same goes for Rose. Rose’s latest song “Number One Girl” is not just a song, it is a song that was born out of her struggles. In her career, she had faced many struggles and we got to see this song. We got to see a vulnerable side of Rose we never got to see before.

For those who do not know who Rose is, she is a KPop idol. She is a member of a Korean girl group called Black Pink. Currently, all the members of Black Pink are focussing on their solo careers. I would say this year had definitely been Rose’s year. Her previous APT with Bruno Mars had literally gone viral. In that song, we got to see Rose’s fun side but in this song, we got to see her vulnerable side like we have never seen before.

Like all artists Rose’s journey has not been easy. She had faced so much backlash from viewers and she was always under so much pressure to be perfect. If you are not familiar with the Korean industry, I will explain a little how much pressure they put on the artists. The Korean industry expects them to weigh a certain amount, so most of them hardly get anything to eat. They also put too much pressure on girl idols like the way they dress and carry themselves. When comes to dating, the Korean industry very strict and most idols are not even allowed to date and if they do they have to do it secret. They ideology is that they would be able to make a lot of money if they are single.

The beauty standards are too high in the Korean industry. the idols have to look a certain way to be considered beautiful. So when the idols make their debut, their agencies restrict everything from their personal lives to their diet. This is the main reason why the suicide rate is high in the Korean industry. Artists face a lot of pressure and this will have negative effects on their mental health.

Rose had faced a lot of backlash. She had to deal with a lot of negative comments from the netizens. She faced so many negative comments due to her voice. Many people hated her because they believed that she had the most unstable voice from Black Pink and she was also understood. Most actions were always misunderstood. She received a lot of hate for it.

The Idea Behind “ Number One Girl”

I was on TikTok where I saw an interview of Rose. Rose was discussing her latest single “ Number One Girl”. She was explaining to the interviewer that she was at this party and she really felt out of place, so she would go home early. When she’s at home she would go through all the comments. In this interview, she admitted that she tried not to let these negative comments get to her and eventually it did. The next day she felt to urge to write a song to showcase whatever she felt, she wanted to show a vulnerable side to the world and the song “ Number One Girl” was created.

This shows we are all human and we all get hurt by all the negative comments. We all think that she is a celebrity and she does not read the comments we sent her but she does and would get hurt by all the hate. I always keep emphasizing this “If you do not have anything nice to say about that person don't say anything at all. Why spread so much hate?

The lyrics of the song are truly heartbreaking. the chorus goes something like this :

This is just sad. She is literally asking what she can do to be the number one girl in your eyes. In the whole song, she is pleading with the world, about what can do to make people like her. This is literally a sad song.

I don't know why she gets so much hate; she has an amazing voice. She nailed the vocals in this song. I may not know Rose personally but she seems like genuine and a sweet person from what I can see. She does not deserve this much hate.

Rose is too good. She does not have to change for anyone. She is already a “Number One Girl” in the eyes of her fans like me.
