Rewatching The Twilight Saga as an Adult

I hope YA gets better

By Diamond GossettPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

I don't even know where to start. So The Twilight Saga has been on Netflix for a bit. I swear the last time I watched it was when I was in my late teens. I'm 28 now. Like every other teenage girl in the late 2000s and early 2010s, I was obsessed with these movie and characters. I wanted a boyfriend like Edward or Jasper, I wanted a guy to be as over protective with me and save me from guys like Edward, because I thought that shit was swoon worthy.I just finished rewatching the Saga and oh my goodness it was just pure cringe! The way Edward tries to "protect" Bella and "keep her safe" saying her safety if basically his number one priority, whether it's keeping her from seeing Jacob, or breaking her truck so she can't go anywhere. I never realised at 14 how much of a giant RED FLAG this dude was. His constant whining about Bella being his only reason for living and Bella wasn't any better. I forgot how annoying and totally boring she is. I love Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson and they did a good job but their characters was just bad. Edwards is controlling, he's a stalker even after they get together, he's a creeper who watched Bella sleep, he tries to take his immortal life just because he thought Bella was dead. I swear in the second movie when Bella was running to stop him from revealing himself, Bella jumped into his arms and the first thing this dummy says is "Heaven". Like, get the hell out of here! That was so cringy. Would anybody want a significant other who basically just lives and breathes for you? No. I certainly hope not. Bella is just one giant cliche. She's everything I hate about girls in YA.

Attracted to the bad boy/loner.

Likes to read books because she's not like other girls

Hates Shopping, seriously what teenage girl hates shopping? Even just shopping a little not even a full on shopping spree.

And I hate that they made her get married at 18. She had her whole life ahead of her and only wanted to become a vampire to be with Edward, who she just met! These two piss me off so much. I texted my friend to ask her why I was watching the Saga and she didn't even know either. I told her I was just torturing myself. You don't really understand abusive relationships like this one until you're older. Bella sacrifices everything to be with a guy she just met and to be in a world she knows nothing about. I mentioned this in another post but I made girls like this when I was writing my stories at 12. They were dependent damsel in distresses who needed a demon king's and his guards protection from an evil force. Nowadays I try to write independent characters and not focus so much on love and things that actually matter much more in the world, Love can come later.

Jacob is just as whiny as Edward when he doesn't get his way with Bella. I swear whenever he throws his little tantrums I just wanna throw my Tv or Phone out the window. He actually threatened to get himself killed when he found out Edward and Bella were getting married. What is it about Bella that makes guys want to end their lives? She's boring as hell with no goals or ambitions or real dreams, she's emotionally manipulative, she neglected her friends and only went out with Jessica to put herself in danger so she could see Edwards floating head tell her not to do stupid shit. She's a terrible daughter and puts Charlie through hell. I don't know just rewatching the entire Saga just left me wishing I could go back in time and prevent my 14-year-old self from watching it when the first movie came out. I love movies and shows about the supernatural, minus The Vampire Diaries, which I will also talk about, later. After today I swear I'll never watch these movies again, at least not by choice. There's also a lot of over acting in this movie. Some of the actors just try to hard. They also went over board in the 3rd and last 2 movies trying to make the Vampires look pale. You could tell some of them were wearing make up. Anyway, I hate Twilight and hope YA heroines get better.
