Resident Evil: Welcome To Racoon City
This Is The Movie Resident Evil Fans Have Been Waiting For

The title alone says everything we need to know, Welcome To Racoon City! Every true fan will agree, the first franchise didn't just derail, it derailed and then blew up like the truck in the trailer for this movie. However, we'll save that subject for later. The main point is that it's finally happened... Sony is making what seems to be a reboot of the iconic franchise. The difference is that this time the director is one of us.., a hardcore fan of the original games that stole our gore-loving hearts over 20 years ago. Johannes Roberts has gone on the record himself stating that his team worked closely with Capcom for the production of this film.
It's safe to say that Sony is going on a hot streak these next two months. Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage taking the box office by storm for October and both Spiderman: No Way Home and Welcome To Racoon City set to hit theaters next month gives those of us in Geek Nation plenty to be excited about.
How The Last Series Went From Good To Bad To Just Horrible
The first three films in the series, Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, and Resident Evil: Extinction, were all pretty good. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't say that they were the greatest of all time but I did enjoy watching them as a fan of the series. Unfortunately, however, every entry that came after Extinction gradually played out the franchise more and more with each release. By the time the final movie came out, there weren't that many people who gave a shit, myself included. The films barely had anything to do with their source material and they began to feel more like easy cash-grabs than projects that were being taken seriously. Regardless of how bad they got, my hope for a reboot that would give fans what they deserved never died. For years I had faith and now it seems like my prayers have been answered.
The Trailer
When I watched the new trailer to Resident Evil: Welcome To Racoon City for the first time, my jaw was on the floor. 10 seconds in and I could feel my excitement boiling over. Nearly every single image was pulled straight out of either the first or second game. If the last series of films was a horror show for all the wrong reasons, then this movie looks like a horror show for all the right ones. Even tiny little references, that only true fans of the original games would catch, can be seen throughout the trailer.
Roberts stated that the film will be centered on the first two games. It will follow Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, along with Wesker and the rest of their S.T.A.R.S team, as they search the mansion for Bravo team. At the same time, we'll see Claire Redfield return to Racoon City, where she will meet up with Leon Kennedy on his first day on the job as a police officer. The two will be happening simultaneously, which I thought was an excellent decision by the director. As opposed to the characters, whom we got to see plenty of, Robers expressed how he wanted to avoid giving us too much information about the mutated creatures that would appear in the film. In spite of that, we did get a few glances at some of them, including one of the most iconic creatures of the entire series, The Licker. Man, I gotta say, that thing looked fucking awesome!
Being a fan of the original games, you could tell that Johaness took the source material seriously when making this movie. He requested for Capcom to send him the layouts to both the mansion and the police station and had his production team build them precisely as they were in the games. Minor details, like Claire's red jacket and wearing her white helmet as she rides into town. The truck explosion, the footage of the twins, the first zombie Chris encounters, I could go on naming details like these but instead, I'll just link the video below to save some time.
Welcome To Racoon City will exclusively be released in movie theaters on November 24. So make sure you get your tickets early because I promise you, you're not going to want to miss out on this one.
