Reason Behind the Pokemon Franchise’s Ever-Increasing Popularity
Pokemon's has established itself as the most successful franchise of all time.

The Pokemon franchise is one of the most celebrated franchises in the world and has a net worth of over $100 Billion. The franchise came into existence after the release of the Pokemon Red and Green video for the Gameboy in Japan in 1996. It became a massive hit among its peers, and since then, the franchise has not looked back.
More than the video games, the anime did a great job of bringing new fans to the community. Not only Japan but even Western countries became fans of the franchise. Even after almost three decades of its inception, the Pokemon franchise’s popularity is ever-increasing in 2024. While most people did not predict the franchise to reach such heights, there are a few reasons behind it.
- Nostalgia Plays A Massive Role Behind The Pokemon Franchise’s Increasing Popularity
The name Pokemon brings a lot of memories for the people who were born in the 1990s. The friendship between Ash Ketchum and Pikachu is pretty iconic. The 10-year-old protagonist’s dream to become the best Pokemon trainer and catch every one of them had everyone on the edge of their seat. Even after so many years, fans still get nostalgic thinking about it.
Whenever a new Pokemon video game launches, the Pokemon Company makes sure to capture the nostalgic factor to increase their sales. Everyone person who watched the show or had a Gameboy still fantasizes about catching every Pokemon in the latest video games and platforms. Other than nostalgia, the introduction of new Pokemon also drives the growing popularity of the franchise.
- Search For New Pokemons
The latest Pokemon anime is not based on manga. Instead, they take inspiration from video games. So, fans are always waiting to see whether a new Pokemon or a generation of Pokemon releases with a new video game. It is quite crucial to adapt to changing trends, and the Pokemon franchise is pretty efficient in this regard.
- Adapting To New Trends
When the world started to bring up the concept of augmented reality, the franchise released Pokemon Go on mobile phones, causing the players to go out and explore different places to catch different Pokemon. They even did several collaborations with other popular brands and franchises to appeal to other fanbases. Lastly, the franchise does not restrict itself to only video games. They have trading cards, movies, merchandise, etc., that further elevate the popularity.
- Pokemon Legends: Z-A Will Carry On The Franchises Legacy
The Pokemon Company's upcoming video game is named Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The video game is scheduled to release in 2025 for Nintendo Switch. Fans have a lot of expectations from the upcoming video, and there are several rumours flying surrounding it. It has been a couple of years since the last game was released.
The franchise always makes sure to release new video games for the fandom and further increase its popularity. At the end of the day, everyone wants to complete the Pokedex by having all the Legendary Pokemon and all the Shiny variants. Pokemon Legends: Z-A will be providing them with another opportunity to fulfil the motto “Gotta Catch ‘Em All.”
The franchise has maintained its popularity for more than a couple of decades. Only a handful franchises are as popular as them. In 2025, the franchise is well over $100 Billion. With each release, be it a new anime or game, they have always seen a profit of million and billions. They always try to capture all the platforms and maximize their revenue. The Pokemon franchise knows how to do it, and will continue to do so in the future.
