Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon The Super Live UK
I went to London to relive a part of my childhook in a theatrical concert experience.
Sailor Moon is one of those shows that always have a special place in my heart. I loved the show as a kid and also watched it as a teenager as well. I think it was so revolutionary. It was both a product of it's time and also something that stood the test of time too. My best friend Vee tagged me in a post on Facebook that was advertising the show and I got the presale ticket. It just happened to be on the same weekend I was in London for a convention in Hammersmith. I was also lucky the venue was close to both close to Camden Market (one of my favourite areas in London) and also a short tube journey to the hotel I was staying in.
At the convention, I tend to cosplay as Sailor Mercury because I see her as my spirit animal with her passion for books. I also thought it was a nice touch that they sent an email encouraging everybody to dress up. I went in my Sailor Mercury costume. I noticed that there were a few people that also dressed up for the event too which was a nice touch. Most of the people wore normal clothes though.
I wans't sure what to expect. The venue I was in looked like a bar with a concert hall. I chose standing instead of sitting. But it did feel like a concert experiance with the standing. I did find it hard to see at times with taller people in front of me and I think a few others had the same problem, but it was just a minor annoyance.
I thought the costumes, music and performances were excellent. They sang and performed in Japanese, but there was subtiles behind so we could all understand and be immersed with what was going on. I loved how they captured Sailor Moon all in the span of an hour and a half. I have a feeling that this was one of those Japanese theatre groups that are all performed by women.
One of the highlights of the show for me was Queen Beryl. I loved all the songs she performed and I think her evilness was captured so perfectly. I also loved how Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon's romance was portrayed and how her friends also supported and sacrificed themselves for her. It brought back so many memories of the show that I loved.
I love how immersive the experience was. It was in two venues, and I went to 'HERE at Outernet' which I almost missed until I saw the long queue. I would have been curious to see what the show would have been like at another venue. I think this show would have been better inside an actual theatre. The place itself is quirky and there was a bit with loads of lights which got me immersed. I tried to take a selfie, but the phone's camera didn't give it justice.
Overall, the whole thing was amazing. I was blown away from the energy and passion put into the show. The costumes looked amazing. The singing and dancing were amazing. I think it would have been really symbolic if it was watched on International Women's Day because it was so empowering and full of girl power. At the same time, it also captures romance and true love perfectly, like a classic Disney film.
If any of you get the chance to watch this, I fully recommend it. I loved every moment of it. It captures the story of Sailor Moon so much and is a faithful adaption and shows what makes the franchise so great.
