Movies are a way to escape what is going on in the world and release some of the stress that can accumulate during this time of shelter in place. For me the movie takes me to another world where my mind can ascend into the characters in these well done movies. Although there are many amazing series and movies I can only bring up four of my favorite for this article. The four series that I have narrowed it down to are 1. Self Made, 2. Miraculous Ladybug, 3. Unorthodox and 4. Letters to a King. In my selection I wanted to make sure I involved all of the family.

Self Made is a series about Madam C.J. Walker. She came from a poor African American home to becoming one of the richest African American in her world and time period creating hair products for women. The story really shows the struggles of a business women in her time and what she had to indure just to get her product and name out their. It also shows her determination and that people are not limited by circumstances or social expectations. She is a true testament to what a person can achieve if they put their heart and soul into what they desire.

Miraculous Ladybug and Cat Noir is a great family adventure that is done in animation. The story is set in France about a Chinese legend that is passed along to teenagers who exhibit qualities that are selfless and kind. There are so many great lessons that each member of your family can learn. Marinette is the daughter of the local baker in Paris, and Adrien is the son of a famous fashion designer. They attend high school together where they have a group of friends that contribute to the story. With every super hero there is a bad guy that keeps the hero's on their toes. The bad guy of the story spreads the negativity through the world by use of moths. There is a catch to becoming accumatized, and that is they must have a negative emotion or reaction. When we watch the show as a family we connect the message to our child that negative emotions can bring on so much more.

Unorthodox is a brave movie showing the life of a girl in a very stringent religious setting. The movie is set in the US in Brooklyn Williamsburg community with some of the movie being filmed in Europe. The movie explains the believes of the Hasidic Jewish orthodox religion by showing the life of a young women Debrah and her transition into womanhood as a devout Orthodox. After her arrange marriage she discovers that life as she knows it is not what she desires. She runs to Berlin to where her mother lives. Her mother escaped the arranged abusive marriage when the Debrah was a baby. When Debrah gets to Berlin she does not connect with her mother right away, and meets some students at a music school. During her time with the students she discovers her love and desire to pursue a music scholarship with the school. She also discovers that she is pregnant with the child of her soon to be ex-husband. The Community sends a mob type person after her along with her husband. It is a really intense movie to watch and very interesting in learning about the culture.

The last series is Letters to a King. The movie takes place in the mid-evil setting. A young boy is entrusted with a letter from a kingdom that is an ally to the one that the boy lives in. He comes across a knight that has been killed by men he knows. The knight gives him a letter to take to the king. In the letter there is very important information about a betrayal. As the boy meets people along the way he learns who he can trust and who he mustn't trust. The series is very intense and exciting for the whole family to enjoy.
Netflix has been a life saver to many movie lovers and with the new movies and series that are released it has made this time of pandemic a little easier to endure.
