My review of Nine Perfect Strangers

"Strange Effect" by group, Unloved

Theme music: I would describe it as intriguing, seductive, compelling foreplay! "Perfectly played" And perfect for this series.

Title: (NINE PERFECT STRANGERS) is a "perfect" title for this series...especially if you understand the totality of its meaning.

One of the truths I often speak of is about the word, "perfect." Why? Because I couldn't understand why the Bible would ask of us to be "without flaw." I knew I could never be without flaws...And then I looked up the Hebrew meaning of the word, which means to be whole, complete, and mature. That I could viably strive for. Strong's Lexicon: https://biblehub.com/hebrew/8549.htm

Plot: Do you believe in Divine Appointments? If so, you will love this series. To further understand what this means, this might help:

Excerpt from this article: "Divine Appointments connect to concepts of fate and Destiny by suggesting that a higher authority arranges events in an individual’s life. The idea of supernatural encounters asserts that specific events or meetings are influenced or planned by a higher power, directing people toward particular results or experiences. Fate and destiny suggest predestined courses or results that people must follow despite their decisions or behaviors."

The number 9 signifies completeness and revelation. The nine people who have come to the resort have been "selected" to help each guest at the spa/resort to be able to achieve something powerful and beautiful in their own lives. But the journey can be painful and frightening, as they find out, facing their "flaws."

So, this series is about healing, understanding, forgiveness...especially of ones self.

Main Characters:

*Nicole Kidman As Masha Dmitrichenko

*Melissa McCarthy As Frances Welty

*Bobby Cannavale As Tony Hogburn

*Michael Shannon As Napoleon Marconi

*Asher Keddie As Heather Marconi

*Grace Van Patten As Zoe Marconi

*Hal Cumpston as Zach Marconi

*Melvin Gregg As Ben Chandler

*Samara Weaving As Jessica Chandler

*Regina Hall As Carmel Schneider

*Luke Evans As Lars Lee

*Manny Jacinto As Yao

*Tiffany Boone As Delilah

*Zoe Terakes as Glory

*Alyla Browne as Tatiana

I felt no dissatisfaction with the acting and felt each character was very believable and well-portrayed. I think the best acting, for me, would belong to that of Michael Shannon. He shined in many dimensions. But they (all cast) were all great and told their stories "perfectly."

After seeing an interview with the creator of the book, (same-named with series) I could "see" facets of each character's personality of the author, Liane Moriarty.

Director: Johnathan Levine

Excerpt: In terms of approaching the cast, some people were already on board when you came on. Casting-wise, what were you looking for in terms of the people that you ended up bringing in, after you joined the project?

LEVINE: I was looking for a few things. I think all of us were. First of all, we were looking for people with both dramatic chops and comedic chops, because that's certainly a big part of what we're doing. Looking for just people you really empathize with, people you felt for, people who you could see doing bad things or unlikable things, but you would still kind of be able to access that humanity. I think that's one of the very special things about it is, all of these characters, no matter how flawed they are, we love them, we root for them, and I think that that's a testament to the amazing cast we have.

Final Words: THUMBS UP

Oh I love that to be ‘perfect’ means to be ‘without flaw’, and that in itself means something entirely different than what we expect; especially because we lean on our own understanding. It’s true meaning: whole, complete and mature. Much more digestible and doable, I agree. Thank you for the article on divine appointments, sounds like a fun tidbit to add to the theme of this series. Oh that’s awesome that they focused on healing, understanding, forgiveness — seems like there’s a lot to learn from. I don’t know if I would watch it, but I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this series. ♥️🤗👏🏽

  • You had me at Nicole Kidman. Seeing that this is a thriller, I'll be adding this to my watchlist!
