30-Day Anime Challenge: Day 2

By animetipzPublished about a year ago 4 min read

Welcome to day 2! I did a 30-day anime challenge last year and had a blast with it. It would be fun to do it again this year. Let’s see if my tastes have changed at all in a year.

Here is day 1 in case you missed it.

I think the purpose of these challenges is to post a picture, but I, being the extra person that I am, will write a blog about each topic.

This differs from what I am used to blogging, which excites me to test my creativity and go back to find the answers to these writing prompts.

Feel free to join me in the comments below! I’d love to hear your answers too.

I wasn’t raised watching anime. Some kids watched Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, or One Piece. I did watch Pokemon, but aside from that I didn’t start watching until middle school. Most people might find the 80s/90s anime the most nostalgic, but my generation of anime was the 2000/2010s, which is when most of the anime on this list came out. With that intro, let’s get into day 2 my most nostalgic anime.

There is going to be some overlap with my first list so let’s get those out of the way. Fruits Basket is the first real anime I watched and when I finally watched the rebooted version I can confidently say that I was full of nostalgia. Not only was this the first anime but it was also the first manga I ever read. I was so disappointed by the ending of the original that I found the manga at our local library and read through them. Watching the rebooted version not only brought back the memories of watching the show but also reading the manga.

Anything Studio Ghibli. I have written more about Studio Ghibli than any other topic. After watching Spirited Away I was hooked on the magic I felt. I ended up cleaning my dad's office for a month to save up enough to buy the full DVD set with all of the movies. I cannot even count how many times I have watched those movies. They bring a sense of magic that nothing has been able to replicate.

Ouran High School Host Club is still one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. My sister and I rewatched this show countless times together. I recently was in a weird mood where I couldn’t decide what to watch so I put this on and watched dying from laughter. A lot of the jokes went over my head as a preteen but as an adult, I couldn’t believe what they got away with putting in here.

Death Note was one of the best anime of my time. I remember binging it and my little teen brain being exploded by the peek fiction I was seeing. I have rewatched Death Note multiple times and read the manga and it never gets old. I still talk about Light's motives, if he was the villain, and what someone would do if they had the power of the death note. This anime is almost 20 years old and still being as popular as it is shows how amazing the story truly is.

When thinking of nostalgic anime Durarara!! Was the first to come to mind. I remember finding this anime and being absolutely blown away by the wild story, loving the unique characters, and overall being more invested in this show than any other. I still love Durarara!! and rewatched it this past year only to see the same shock and love for it that I had over 10 years ago. I can’t put into words how this anime makes me feel nostalgic, but I can say when you find your favorite anime you just know, and after that, you watch a lot of good shows but none come close to your favorite.

After writing this list it made me want to rewatch all of these anime. I could write a novel on all the anime that make me feel nostalgic so it was hard to break it down to just 5.

Some honorable mentions:

Soul Eater

My Love Story

School Rumble

The Future Diary

Clannad and Clannad After Story

Fullmetal Alchemist

Deadman Wonderland

After reviewing the challenge prompts I already know these are all going to get a moment to shine as well.

What is your most nostalgic anime?

Organizing Your Anime: My Methods for Tracking and Completing Anime

Let’s get it out of the way, I am a freak. I first started watching anime in 2013ish. I realized quickly that there were too many anime I wanted to watch to keep track of them all. I also found it annoying to try and remember which episode you were on in a show, it would take the fun out of watching it by trying to remember and starting an episode only to realize you had already watched it.

See you tomorrow for the anime that made me cry!!
