'Lion King' 2019 Remake

Real Review from a Real Fan

By Hannah ElliottPublished 6 years ago 3 min read

This movie was probably one of the most anticipated movies ever created in reality. Everyone who is anyone knows about The Lion King in some way, shape or form. From the soundtrack, to the characters and the movie itself, for many it is a childhood staple. I will caution from here out there will be major spoilers, so if that does not bother you or you have seen the movie already, continue on.

I, for one, have always been a huge fan of The Lion King, and I have high expectations of it. Not only have I watched the movie countless times to the point where I know all the words, and all the song lyrics, but I also have a Lion King tattoo, multiple tanks tops, a Lion King clutch and so many other Lion King knick knacks if you will.

Some may say that my love for the movie will make me biased but that is not the case. I hold the movie at such a high standard that it needs to pretty well be perfect or I will be disappointed with the new movie. If anything is wrong, if they do not do the hula scene it will just be disappointing. You cannot remake a movie like this and change a lot about it or it ruins the original masterpiece.

This movie was above and beyond all expectations one could have for it. The fact that they followed the original so closely but were not afraid to make slight changes made it a great film. How they did it was somewhat similar to the Beauty and the Beast remake. No change was really over the top, but just slight enough that it added a new flare to the movie.

For example, it made complete sense to have Scar not as close with the hyenas as in the original made total sense. Also, the sass that Timon and Pumba had this movie rather than how playful they were in the original was great because it felt like a nod to our generation who grew up with the original as our sense of humour has grown. Also, the explanation of why Nala left to go find help, and the extra scenes with the lionesses and how they were dealing with Scar I felt just added so much more to the back story.

A great change I thought that was done so tastefully is the slight change to the live bait. Everyone was waiting for the dress in drag and do the hula moment. But there was a change to that, which I did not mind at all. Namely, because it was just as funny in a different way, using the Beauty and the Beast song "Be Our Guest" was just soo great in a different way. Another moment that I thought was a good nod to the original was when it was before the end battle scene when Raki reached into his tree and pulled out his staff. That staff was iconic in the original so for them to pay homage to it with this new movie was needed.

All in all the remake was just as great as I had hoped for it to be. Was it as great as the original? That I am not sure, it was great in every way but the original was just something so special it is hard to see if anything will beat it. But this movie gave it it's best shot and it is worth all the 5 stars that it received.

What do you think? Let me know if you liked the movie or not!
