Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan
The most relatable anime ever written

I am a sucker for slice-of-life anime, and I'm always on the lookout for a fun slice-of-life anime to enjoy. I watched this anime all because of a clip I saw on Pinterest that made me laugh. It was so relatable I had to see what the show it came from was. With little to no knowledge about life lessons with Uramichi Oniisan I pushed play, Little did I know I was about to watch one of the funniest and most relatable anime ever.

Storyline: Uramichi is 31 lives a lonely life with no wife or kids, has to deal with production hassles from unknowing or uncaring staff, and still has to give a good smile to the children every day... Uramichi appears on children’s TV alongside two grown men dressed as forest creatures and a singing woman with a very short fuse. Uramichi leads little kids in exercises and answers their questions about life. But Uramichi’s life is pain. Uramichi just wants to be miserable in peace. But, in his words, “There are games that don’t end even after you forfeit. Like life, for example… ”

I laughed so hard during episode 1, and I already knew I had found an anime gem. I love a good comedy anime but rarely laugh out loud (Maybe because I am heartless) But the adult and relatable dark comedy had me cracking up.
The humor in this show is very relatable for adults. As kids, we believe everything in our lives will be magical, but as we get older we realize that bills need to be paid so we get a job with a boss that annoys us, we realize relationships don't work out as planned so we end up single, we can't make friends so our coworkers end up being default friends, and the list goes on and on.
One of my favorite parts about anime is being teleported into another world, It gives you the ability to live any life you want. That is not the case with Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan. This is an anime that is grounded in reality and hysterical because this is our everyday lives. Which can be just as funny and entertaining as a magical world.

The main character Uraminchi is incredibly relatable. He was only good at one thing gymnastics and was the star in college, but once college life ended adulthood started to hit. Not everything works out and what we are good at as kids doesn't always lead to success as an adult. He still tried to do his best with the kids on the show but sometimes his inner darkness comes out in odd remarks that leave the kids confused and us laughing.

The other characters are also relatable and hilarious. From failed singers to college roommates who just needed a job, none of them are very excited about what they do for work. I have to give the writers props for being able to take normal characters and give them unique quirks. You feel connected to each character through some backstory episodes and plenty of screen time for the whole cast.

I relate the most to Mitsuo, He is the mom of the friend group. I tend to love side characters and he is a perfect example of the perfect written side character. He is understanding everyone's quirks and tries his best to help everyone throughout the show. He doesn't like the spotlight so you have to pay attention to him in the background which is so worth it. His college roommate and now coworker on the other hand is having a hard time growing up. He is constantly messing with Uramichi, not taking his job seriously, and encouraging everyone to go out drinking. Their friendship is so relatable, I feel like with best friends there is always the overly responsible one and the impulsive one. Do you relate to the responsible one of the friend group? or the impulsive one?

Season 1 - 13 Episodes
Going with my theory of episode counts this fits in the perfect short anime. It's fast past for an anime but also slow pace story of our boring everyday life. This takes a slice-of-life anime to another level, The writers were genius with the storyline in each episode making them relatable and funny. I was laughing my head off throughout the show and this is one I will be watching again soon.
I have heard they are possibly coming out with a season 2 but nothing is confirmed yet. A second season would be amazing, but also it ended on such a good note that it doesn't need a second season.

RATINGS:
My Review: This is now one of my favorite anime of all time. The only other anime to get me to crack up a few times was the ways of the househusband, but Uramichi Oniisan had me laughing every episode. It is beyond relatable and doesn't miss a beat with perfectly timed comedic lines. I will say this is adult humor, you may or may not find this relatable if you're still young, but for us adults who are sucking at adulting, this is our show. If you need an anime to cheer you up PUT THIS ON!! I promise it will make your day better and leave you smiling.
