'Knives Out' is an epic film for all audiences.

Better sharpen that knife. Let’s solve this mystery.

Knives Out is a 2019 released murder mystery. After the murder of the patriarch, detectives are thirsty for details examining every member of the Thrombey family. It’s not until questioning the nurse when the missing pieces manifest.

Ever since I first saw the preview of this movie I was intrigued. Not only does Knives Out encase truly magnificent performances by incredible actors either well-known or those who are just starting out, but it also has a gripping story that hooks you right from the start.

Knives Out has a terrific group of actors. This was an ensemble movie, that’s for sure. However, there were a few standouts. Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Daniel Craig, and Christopher Plummer were all splendid! I enjoyed everyone’s (mostly) hostile interactions.

I enjoyed Plummer’s scenes along with his spot-on comedic and snarky delivery. Recently, Collette has become one of my favorite actresses after witnessing her harrowing performance as Annie in Hereditary. Comparing her role to this comedic part, Collette is very talented.

Ana de Armas is outstanding as the Thrombey’s nurse, Marta. Her performance was impressive. As someone who is not overly confident, Marta is taken on a journey, covering the clues and pleading her case while having to lie. Just the thought about lying makes Marta physically ill. Literally. Armas was the highlight of Knives Out. Now I am looking forward to seeing her in more films!

Before seeing this film I noticed viewers talking about Daniel Craig’s part. Craig was another standout. Craig, or James Bond as he is known as, conveys a new personality that is believable. Knives Out is proof that anyone can portray a contrasting part that is not stereotypical to their usual part. I liked his southern accent.

Other credits include Chris Evens, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, LaKeith Standfield, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martel, Riki Lindhome, K Callan and even a short appearance by M. Emmet Walsh. All these gifted actors are given a chance to shine whether a hilarious line or horrified reactions to the case.

Knives Out does not follow any of the typical murder mystery tropes. One of my favorite parts about murder mysteries is seeing everything play out from different perspectives. It’s an original piece of work with a well-written story. It captures the nostalgic essence of an Agatha Christie mystery and builds up the story to an engrossing tale for all audiences to enjoy.

Props to Rian Johnson who made an exciting picture that kept me guessing. I loved the layouts of the mystery, especially how Johnson incorporated comedy into this film. Editing for the film is splendid splitting up moments that you wouldn’t think are important. The story is very strong which is the element that holds the film together.

The sets are stunning. The Thrombey’s mansion is a beautiful model that looks over a nice landscape. I enjoyed exploring the house at all the crafty artifacts. The display of knives is one of the most fascinating set-pieces I have ever seen.

Seeing this movie in theaters is a fun experience. One of my favorite parts about sharing a movie experience with an audience is getting to laugh along together. Reactions are important. That’s why more murder mystery films should be made. They are important and experiment on an element of storytelling that everyone should try.

With an epic conclusion, Knives Out never has a dull moment. I had a fun time catching this movie and I recommend it to you. The acting is one of the best components that sells the film. Enjoy the murder mystery.
