‘Keep my name out of your mouth’: Yvette Nicole Brown responds as Chevy Chase controversy resurfaces
As a new Chevy Chase documentary revisits past allegations, the actress makes it clear she won’t let others narrate her story.

The allegations swirling around Chevy Case and Yvette Nicole Brown stand as controversial. Wait, they’re downright horrific.
Chase had been accused of hurling racial slurs at Brown and other cast members on the show Community.
This all sprang from various encounters with castmates. But Brown has been adamant saying “Keep my name out your mouth!”
East Cleveland is still embedded in her mind. Her actions may be made explicit or not. She maintains that Chase had been a toxic presence on set.
This vicious atmosphere had only been compounded by the fact that Brown left the set in haste. This is the point where show director Jay Chandrasekhar noticed that Chase had agitated his co-star.
Everything about this story screams that Chase needs to be counseled and treated. Brown was the victim that day but didn’t lay down within victimhood.
That’s the sad part. To what extent will Chase address incidents like what Brown experienced? When you have such an odious presence on set, it’s difficult to cut through and make your marks and channel that acting part of yourself.

You could rehearse your lines for hours and it wouldn’t make a difference. Chase is likely an embarrassment to himself and ashamed that he treats people so terribly. This is all conjecture.
Brown remains steadfast in her role as someone who got up and left from the situation without hesitation. Her roots going back to East Cleveland lifted her up out of her situation. With supreme confidence and ready to enter into another phase of her life, she ensured her confidence and self-regard would create a lane for her to run.
But she wasn’t jetting away from the problem as much as she embraced the idea of respecting herself. The way she challenged Chase and still holds that she may or may not divulge the details of the incident.
It’s all up to her. She’s doing all of these on her own prerogative. That’s black woman power right there. She has the key to unlock her own destiny through choosing to speak out or not.
If she is to say anything, it’s all on her own accord. She holds that right and the ability to choose whatever path she would like to enter.
As the show has been off the air for over a decade, some of these issues wouldn’t even be current if not for the latest documentary.
The nonfiction work brings a light that shows Chevy Chase as a player from Saturday Night Live to movie star and also delves into the history of his frequent abuses, allegedly.

But Brown is not about to roll over and play nice when Chase seems to be in the wrong. All the engagements that Brown had with Chase must’ve been awkward to say the least. For her to just excuse herself from the environment shows how she intended to safeguard her own self.
Chase should be brought to the front of the confession table. Brown ought to do whatever she wants to do with her knowledge of Chase. With her ability to control her own story and speak her truth or remain hush, it is all up to her and intentions to keep her mind intact. By not allowing the supposed fear of the white man to negate her choices, she remains a stalwart for creating a way of knowing herself.
Brown brings together the thoughts of a Civil Rights activist who had enough of an early 21st century, supposedly “diverse” cast.
In all, she represents the one who had had enough of a slimy individual. She should keep her good deeds in her own mouth.
