Is Binge-Watching a Special Skill?
and should I add it to my resume
Netflix binge-watching shows have become some sort of a special skill for me. I somehow manage to have limitless energy to consume this media. So I have quite a few recommendations for you, and trust when I say this, you will not be disappointed.
If you liked Bridgerton, you’ll like Reign.
Period-type dramas are just great, I mean we get to be transformed to a different time. These times also have such different rules and societies and some of these things are just dreamy. Bridgerton was a great storyline with tons of great costumes and flare. It flows the storyline of two families in a society hell-bent on using women as trophies for marriage. As for Reign, the story follows Mary Queen of Scot’s marriage to Frances, the prince of France, and these costumes are too die for. Like Bridgerton there are multiple stories to follow, in Reign. However after seasons two, Reign went off the rails and I don’t want to be held accountable for suggesting that season.
If you liked Travelers, you’ll like The OA.
Listen, if you need an escape into futurism with a hint of magic, look no further than Travelers. This show follows our saviors from the future coming back to save the present from destroying itself. I’m talking body-switching and dramatic events being rewritten. For The OA, is a story about a girl who resurfaces after being abducted. She quickly assembles a team to help save the others that have been captured. She calls herself the original angel. This show also has magic and fantasy elements. The OA was one of those shows that sticks with you, long after it is over.
If you like Mad Men, you’ll like Bojack Horseman
Mad Men follows the head of advertising life from being a father to being the most successful ad man in the 1960s to 1970s era. A much better time for America, as many would say, things were cheap, and having an apartment in the city and a house and wife in the suburbs didn’t break the bank. We follow Don as he slowly unravels under his success. Like Don, the show Bojack Horseman follows a man (a horse in this world), as he fetishizes his own sadness. Bojack had been in a successful sitcom in his younger days only to realize he may not do anything better. Followed by depression and alcoholism, we see a man unravel under his own pressure of being great.
If you like Grey’s Anatomy, you’ll like Private Practice
Okay, it goes without saying that Shonda Rhimes writes the best television (see Bridgerton on this list). Grey’s Anatomy follows the storylines of doctors in training as they take on different crises that seem to only happen in Seattle, Washington. And it includes sexy hookup scenes in various parts of the hospital. Private Practice is the spin-off of one of the doctors from Grey’s Anatomy. Following her divorce from Dr. McDreamy, Addison moves to California to start at a practice owned by her best friend. This show follows these doctors working at a seaside medical building.
If you liked Ozark, you’ll like The Sinner
Jason Bateman could stare in a show about a dysfunctional family and it is completely absurd and I would still watch it (see Arrested Development). Anyways, I was kidding, that show actually is really hard to watch. However, Ozark was easy to finish in one night. Ozark follows a family trying to outsmart the delinquents they had been money laundering for. In an effort to save their lives this family works a small town in the Ozarks to their advantage. The Sinner is filmed in much the same way, in that there are mysteries and intrigue around every corner. In The Sinner, we see a disturbed young mother in an investigation to understand why she snaps and stabs a man at the beach one day. We find that nothing is what it seems, and no one can be trusted.
If you liked Virgin River, you’ll like Sweet Magnolias
Virgin River is a small town where a nurse decides to escape her hotshot life from. She is then won over by a friendship with the small-town bad boy, Jack, and finds herself learning more about herself than she bargained. Sweet Magnolias is about a small town, however, we follow the lives of three best friends as they join forces to open a spa and deal with life’s issues. From divorces to dating your son’s baseball coach, these girls are together through thick and thin.
I have so many more, however, I need to stop here so that I can write separate articles about all the other shows I have watched. I will be back with more recommendations and more in-depth reviews about these and more. Thank you and I hope that you take the time to watch some of these. If I had to recommend my all-time favorite show, I would recommend Mad Men to be at the top of your list.
