The Man Behind Yellowstone

Even if you have not put a face to the name, Taylor Sheridan has been all over the airwaves for years. During the rift between him and Kevin Costner over creative differences on Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan has become a juggernaut in Hollywood.

Like many, the Yellowstone creator is someone you probably know from Veronica Mars. You’ll likely recognize Taylor Sheridan when you see him and find out what happened to the actor who played Deputy Chief Hale on the hit series Sons of Anarchy.

Born Sheridan Taylor Gibler, Jr. Taylor Sheridan was born in North Carolina on July 17, 1969. Taylor was raised in the Fort Worth, Texas area, and as a kid, spent a lot of time on his family's ranch. Being around a ranch so much as a child would have helped form the stories for Yellowstone.

Taylor didn’t start as a writer. Sheridan’s time as an actor would get him to read thousands of scripts, as actors do.

While his experience as an actor grew, Sheridan landed the role of Deputy Chief David Hale on Sons of Anarchy. Hale was an antagonist on the show, which portrayed the lives and fictional adventures of a California outlaw biker club. Sheridan did 21 episodes leading up to the season three premiere, where his character was written off in one of the more violent and public murders of the Charlie Hunnam-led series.

Taylor Sheridan the Writer

In 2011 Taylor Sheridan was working as an actor. When things weren’t working out well, Sheridan started working on a script. A few years later the movie Sicario was released and brought Denis Villeneuve critical acclaim. Over the years, Sheridan has racked up numerous wins.

Sheridan’s movie Hell or High Water starred Chris Pine and Ben Foster and earned him award nominations. Not long after, Taylor moved behind the camera as a director with the movie Wind River.

Things have changed for the man who was written out of Sons of Anarchy. Taylor Sheridan’s list of shows includes two spin-offs of Yellowstone with more being considered. As if that wouldn’t keep the man busy, he’s also producing five other shows, which include Tulsa King, Special Ops: Lioness, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Mayor of Kingstown, and the soon-to-be-released Landman. Paramount has shown a lot of faith in Taylor Sheridan after the stellar success of Yellowstone. Rightfully so.

As the world grapples with the astounding first episode of the final season of Yellowstone, and Taylor Sheridan revels in his success, what’s next for the talented writer? No matter what happens, he seems to be in good shape to continue enjoying what he does.

If you’re a fan of the show, it might interest you to know that the owner of the Four Sixes Ranch, is Taylor Sheridan. He rents it out to Paramount for the shows and as there’s a rumored sequel or spin-off that will center around the 6666s Ranch, we’ll no doubt see much more of Taylor and his brilliant writing.

Takeaways

Unconfirmed reports about Taylor Sheridan at the time of his departure from Sons of Anarchy are interesting. If true, Taylor has become a walking example of the American dream.

Allegedly, in 2011, Sheridan was down to his last 800 dollars in the bank. That’s alleged to be the point he committed to writing a script that would later showcase his skills as Benicio Deltoro’s Sicario was a well-done piece of work.

His net worth today, just thirteen years later, is estimated to be around $70 million. It’s an impressive accomplishment from a struggling actor to today. If anything seems true the Taylor Sheridan days at Paramount and on television are far from over.
