House of the Dragon Episode 4

Review

We are now four weeks into season 2 of House of the Dragon and the writers have spent the last 3 episodes telling the audience that the creative team doesn’t even know what Fire and Blood is. Last week's final scene was a pathetic attempt at character development and it failed miserably. I am really hoping that there is a major turn in the tide here with House of the Dragon season 2 episode 4 because otherwise I am going to rip my hair out.

I love seeing Daemon and Young Rhaenyra together again. For all of the people last week saying he sees her young because that’s when he groomed her…you are the people we are talking about when we say that media literacy is dead. He very clearly sees the young version of her because that is the last version that loved and trusted him. Before he disappointed her. I love this development for her, he really does just wants what is best for his queen, he is just a little confused with how to execute that.

My girl Rhaenys is about to die…we all know what happens at Rook's Rest so of course they have been cranking up her screen time. I feel like her and Corlys’ interactions have been really off this season, like they are so obviously the best couple in this show (the bar is low), and they felt the need to sew what feels like very random tension between them, for no reason.

God I really can’t stand Alicent, they truly did destroy her character. I would have so much more respect for her if she was just straight up selfish and evil like she was in the book. In the show she is nothing but delusional and stupid and it's exhausting and painful to watch. Out here getting pregnant with coleslaws demon spawn…gross. She is so useless.

This council meeting is GARBAGE. In what world would a queens council be allowed to speak about her with such disregard with no consequences? Also pretty sure Rhaenyra’s men continued to fight for her and her bloodline after her death, there was no questioning her decisions. That said in the book she wasn’t so passive and dumb.

Aegon’s insecure ass is so terrible. A bad person, Bad father, Bad king. Why is he so shocked that Aemond is better at war than he is? Aegon is a whiny little baby who reacts with his emotions instead of his pathetic little brain. This season has done a decent job of making me feel bad for Aemond.

I am so over the bringing up of Viserys “changing his mind” on his deathbed. We all know he didn't. We all know that it was bullshit. Let it go. The war and the usurpation would have happened with or without Alicent’s dumbass so the need to keep bringing it up, once again feels like bad writing.

Daemon is losing his mind. Enter Alys Rivers…her story isn’t gonna be great.

An actual scene between Alicent and Aegon was long overdue. Alicent just proves that she’s an idiot thinking that Aegon was going to actually learn. Also her thinking that she was any more competent as a ruler. Truly delusional. Fully admitting to her son that she didn’t put him on the throne because he was worthy or because he could do it but only because they wanted to take it from Rhaenyra is fucking wild.

Rhaenyra’s son coming at her with so much sass is amazing. He was not having any of her bullshit and I love that for him. He would have been such a good king. I can’t believe that he has to tell her that she can’t be the one to fly out on her own. And here we go, my sweet Rhaenys.

Aegon finally gets the involvement that he wants but it is going to have consequences. Aemond fully letting his brother get fucked up before coming out on Vaghar is hilarious. I love how they designed the fight between Vaghar and Melys, I love that they showed the scale difference between the two dragons. It was really excellently done.

Will we never be rid of crispy cole? I just need him to die so bad…he's irritating.

Well the war that we have been verbally told is coming for 3 episodes finally started. Aegon got his shit rocked as did his pittly little dragon Sunfyre and that was wildly satisfying. Rhaenys was badass and incredible and did a wonderful job of fighting off two dragons, love her to death. Aemond letting his brother get fucked up was a power move and honestly I love that for him. And Rhaenyra passing on the Targaryean prophecy to her son would make me happier if I didn’t know that they obviously both die. I am hoping that now that the battles have actually started that the back half of the season starts to move a little bit faster, I need less of Alicent and more of the actual relevant players in the dance.
