Family By Choice is a remake of the Chinese drama “ Go Ahead” I have watched them both. I was a huge fan of the Chinese version and when I heard that the Korean version was going to be released, I was really excited. I loved them both. The Chinese version was released a couple of years back while the Korean version just finished airing. It was so worth it. Family By Choice had a total of 16 episodes and aired from October 9th to November 27th, 2024. The storyline is pretty much similar for both versions. This drama starred Hwang In Youp and Jung Chae Yeon as the leads.

Plot

Yu Jun Won was raised solely by her dad as her mother had passed away. Yu Jun Won had no memories of her mother all she were photos of her mom. Kim San Ha had a difficult childhood, his sister died when he was alone with her at home. Since then his mother never stopped blaming him. He was hurt a lot. One day his mother would decide to leave leaving Kim San Had with You Jun Won. Kang Hae Jun was also raised by a single mother. His mother also leaves him with Yu Jun Won’s father.

This is the basic story, even though Yu Jun Won, Kim San Ha, and Kang Hae Jun do not share blood, they share a close bond with each other. The trio spent their adolescence being raised by Yu Jun Won and Kim San Ha’s father. When they become adults due to different circumstances Kim San Ha and Kang Hae Jun had to leave with their biological families leaving Yu Jun Won behind and all alone.

They will only now reunite 10 years but things have changed. Things are not what it used to be after all 10 years have passed. Yu Jun Won still resented both Kim San Ha and Kang Hae Jun for leaving her behind. The two boys were struggling with their families and Kim San Ha was also struggling with new romantic feelings for Yu Jun Won.

This drama was so good and this was the most awaited drama because we were all waiting to see Hwang In Youp as a male lead. He was the most popular second lead since his appearance in the K-drama “ True Beauty” and we were very excited to see him as as male lead in this drama. We were so happy to see that he finally got the girl.

I was very skeptical at first to be honest because the original C-drama had 40 episodes while this only had 16 episodes. I was really worried about how this series was going to squeeze everything in just 16 episodes. I think in most parts it went well, I just wished the second couple had more screen time. The second couple Kang Hae Jun and Park Dal were so cute. Throughout most parts, we only got to see Park Dal’s one-sided love for him while Kang Hae Jun only saw her as Yun Ju Won’s best friend. But I am glad they gave this couple a chance. We only got to see Kang Hae Jun really felt about her towards the end. I wished they could have had more scenes together. At least they got a happy ending so it’s good, they should have had more screen time together. I really enjoyed watching them together, they were so cute.

I really loved the romance between the leads as well. It was definitely a slow-burn romance. It took them a while to be together, but I am glad and I get it why it took a while for them to get together. After all they were raised together and Yu Ju Won saw Kim San Ha as an older brother. It was pretty obvious that he was already in love with him from the beginning, it was so refreshing to see how Yu Ju Won slowly fell in love with Kim San Ha. She was confused about what she was feeling, they grew together and whenever they were going through any difficult times they always leaned on each other. So, she confused whether she was confusing how she felt about love. But I’m glad she realized that what she was feeling was love. I really enjoyed every scene with them, they were so good together.

Kim San Ha’s mother is a piece of work. She thinks she can walk in whenever she wants and demands Kim Sa Ha to live with her. She abandoned him and now she is demanding that he only live with her and take care of her and her daughter. She was really annoying till the end and the way she treated Kim Sa Ha really makes me mad. Till the end, she really did not want to understand Kim Sa Ha’s pain and called him selfish because he wanted to live his life way. Did not like her at all. She’s the worst character in the entire series.

When I talk about acting, I would say Hwang In Youp’s acting was so good. He delivered every scene perfectly. Through his acting ,we could feel how Kim San Ha was feeling and the pain he was going through. We as an audience could feel it. Hwang In Youp was the most popular second lead. He literally nailed it as a male lead. Every scene was delivered so amazingly by him. It was so good to watch.

I really loved the bond between Kim San Ha, Yun Ju Won, and Kang Hae Jun. It was so good. Even though they were not related by blood, they had a bond so powerful that not even their biological families could tear them apart. This series has taught me that in life we can also choose our family and family is not just blood.

Overall, this drama was so good. It was the most anticipated drama and this drama did not disappoint. This drama was worth it. This was just a comfort drama for me. I highly recommend this drama.
