Falling for Christmas - A Netflix Movie Review
Taking a bit to find its story, 'Falling for Christmas' is a heartwarming holiday film.

Christmas is a time for miracles. Gather the memories in your heart.
Falling for Christmas landed on Netflix in 2022. In the days leading up to Christmas, a young woman is proposed to on the top of a ski mountain. Skiing backward down the mountain and getting amnesia, Sierra has no idea who or where she is. A handsome lodge owner and his family take her in.
I had mixed feelings about Falling for Christmas when I watched the trailer. The film looked like the usual feel-good Christmas movie with a Hallmark spin. Taking a bit to find its story, Falling for Christmas is a heartwarming holiday film. Always treasure memories.
Sierra (Lindsay Lohan) has always had everything she’s ever wanted. But she’d rather acquire her own life than be pampered. Lohan was a bit flat in the beginning but it was arguably on purpose. Learning to do the things that have always been done for her, Sierra is given more of a positive outlook on life.
Chord Overstreet was excellent as the humble Jake. Since his wife’s passing, the holidays are not been what they used to be. Helping Sierra regain her memory, their interactions are sweet. Olivia Perez and Alejandra Fiores were two of my favorites. Avy was a sweet kid.
George Young was the comedy king! As Sierra’s shallow and flamboyant boyfriend, Tad is also given a subplot of his own. I love this subplot! Having no idea how to survive on his own, Tad runs into a survivalist living in the woods.
It was already funny with Tad and Ralph (Sean Dillingham) traveling through the snowy woods, but what if Tad also had amnesia? He also fell off the mountain. With the reveal of his character at the climax, a segment should have been written at the beginning so it wouldn’t have been out of the blue.
Falling for Christmas includes an ensemble of various characters. The acting is weak in some parts not coming off naturally. The characters are over the top, but they’re fun. Sierra’s father (Jack Wagner) deserved a stronger role. He also had a fast change of heart.
Falling for Christmas is very cheesy. There are some cringe-worthy moments where I rolled my eyes. We’re treated to watching Sierra mess up common chores a lot of the time. At first, when I watched a clip, I thought the film was making fun of amnesia. Because Sierra has always been pampered, it made sense as to why she didn’t know how to cook, do laundry, or make a bed.
Plot points were forgotten in the story. Sierra and Jake do meet before her accident. How he doesn’t recognize her, I’m not sure. Was this film trying to incorporate magic? Copying the tone of a Hallmark film, eventually, it found its originality. In my opinion, Janeen Dornian did that deliberately. It’s important to be yourself instead of someone you’re not.
I am a ski fanatic. That’s one plot element that drew me into watching this film. Why did filmmakers have to use special effects? Filming terrific ski scenes, for close-ups, a very noticeable green screen was utilized. Other than the cheap-looking effects, the entire film is decorated with Christmas decorations, lights, and festivities.
Memories are a given. Christmas is a tough time for anyone who has lost someone. It’s okay to let go. Make new memories.
Some parts of the film are sugarcoated but don’t doubt Falling for Christmas before you see it. It’s a film that will get you into the holiday spirit. Watch it on Netflix.
