Eminem’s New Track “Fuel” Turns Up the Heat on Diddy Allegations

The Song Stirs Up Old Tensions and New Allegations Against Diddy

In his latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), Eminem drops “Fuel,” a track taking direct aim at Sean “Diddy” Combs amid the music mogul's recent legal troubles. On "Fuel," Eminem twists lyrics to reference allegations against Diddy and suggests connections to the unsolved deaths of hip-hop legends Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls.

The verses kick off with Eminem’s signature wordplay: “I’m like a R-A-P-E-R,” he says “Got so many S-As [sexual assaults]… Wait, he didn’t just spell the word ‘Rapper’ and leave out a P, did he?” And he delivers those last three words so they sound exactly like “P. Diddy.”

Fans interpret this as a direct jab at Combs, emphasizing the recent civil suits alleging sexual assault and rape against him. He escalates by alluding to Diddy’s infamous history, reviving longstanding conspiracy theories that Diddy was involved in the hit on Tupac. Eminem raps, “I ain’t tryna beef with him… ‘Cause he might put a hit on me like Keffe D did him,” invoking Duane “Keffe D” Davis, who was recently charged with Tupac’s 1996 murder and has previously claimed Diddy offered him a $1 million bounty on Tupac and Suge Knight.

Eminem’s verse also nods to his influences, from LL Cool J to Tech N9ne, and even takes a shot at the Alec Baldwin Rust shooting incident, comparing the danger of the industry’s power plays to real-life violence on set. By the end of the track, Eminem reaffirms his mastery of rap’s cutting-edge lyricism, turning the personal and political into punchlines that reflect both his longstanding critiques of the industry and his rivalry with other icons.

Diddy and Eminem: A Past Revisited

The verse’s intensity draws attention to Diddy’s own past praise for Eminem’s skills. Over two decades ago, Diddy told Rolling Stone that Eminem was a serious lyrical force, comparing him to Biggie and Tupac. Now, with “Fuel” calling Diddy’s legacy into question, fans speculate about whether Eminem’s lyrics are simply about maintaining rap’s legacy or reigniting old tensions.

In recent months, Sean "Diddy" Combs has faced multiple civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault and misconduct, with claims dating back to the 1990s. While his representatives deny these allegations, the accusations have led to renewed scrutiny of his influence in the music industry. His relationship with Eminem has historically been professional but occasionally tense, as both held substantial influence in hip-hop. Eminem has mentioned Diddy in his music, at times critically, such as in his recent track “Fuel,” where he addresses both past rumors and current allegations surrounding Combs.

I like Eminem because he’s real. He’s talented and he has had me in Slim Shady stitches. The beard is awesome too- Great job on this, Anna! 😊❤️😁🌸

I have had this on my must read list since I saw you published on Vocal + Assist. I’m a dedicated Eminem fans since his early days. He is edgy. His technical skills as a rapper, including intricate rhyme schemes and complex wordplay, appeal greatly to me. He doesn’t back away from anyone. Any controversy., And his latest ‘Fuel’ - he has certainly done that! I think it’s a great track. You ask ‘Now, with “Fuel” calling Diddy’s legacy into question, fans speculate about whether Eminem’s lyrics are simply about maintaining rap’s legacy or reigniting old tensions.’ I suppose that’s for each to decide. But for me I’m glad it’s both.’ Thank you so much for writing this ‘on point ‘ piece. I look forward to reading more! I was hoping, though feel no obligation if you could read my most recent ‘Sky-Ku.’ ‘Disoriented: I wake in fright. https://shopping-feedback.today/poets/disoriented-fb39950nin%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E?
