Dolores Umbridge

Dolores Umbridge is a cruel lady who was one of the many Defense Against the Dark Arts professors. Her life was mostly her being selfish and wanting to be with powerful people. She was born to a wizard named Orford Umbridge and a muggle named Ellen Cracknell which would make Dolores a Half-Blood. Half-Bloods are ok. I mean they are respected, but not to the standards that Dolores wanted. She wanted to be respected like the Pure-Blood families of the Wizarding World. Dolores is the oldest and only daughter of her parents, and they also had another child, a boy who was born a squib. Now her dad blamed his wife for his son being a squib and Orford and his wife separated. Ellen and her son went to live in the muggle world while Dolores and Orford went to live among the wizarding communities. She was embarrassed by her father because of his lack of ambition for a new job.

Dolores went to Hogwarts and was sorted into Slytherin House which showed how her personality was going to be in the beginning. Slytherin House characteristics are ambition, shrewd, cunning, strong leaders, achievement-oriented, and self-preservation. These are all characteristics that you can tell Umbridge has even if you only see her once because she is cruel and believes in blood purity. She decided to act like she was related to a well-known pureblood family of Selwyn to get a higher place at the Ministry and she acted like she wasn’t related to her father because she was embarrassed by him. Dolores told her father to go for early retirement, and she rose to power in the Ministry and became Senior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic. She got what she wanted which was power and people listening to her, but all she wanted was to be in power over someone.

In 1995, she was appointed Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, but not by Dumbledore but by the Minister which was weird and the first evidence that the Minister was interfering at Hogwarts. That summer she sent a couple of dementors after Harry Potter to make him use magic and get expelled, but he ended up with a hearing and this was just a plan to keep people from knowing about Voldemort’s return. Dolores decided that to punish kids it would be a good idea to make them write lines with their own blood which is only possible with her special quil that cuts your skin while you write the lines. Harry Potter’s hand was scared with “ I must not tell lies” for the rest of his life, so he would never forget it even though he never lied to her during that year at Hogwarts. Her time at Hogwarts can only be explained as cruel, nasty, and thirst for more power than anyone has had before. No one had ever tried to be headmaster or close to that amount of power until Umbridge came to Hogwarts, and even Dumbledore found a loophole in her power. When she tried to fire Professor Trelawney and kick her off the property which was her home for sixteen years Dumbledore came out and saved Trelawny by saying that Umbrdge has the right to fire the professor but she has no authority to banish the teachers from the ground.

That was when she realized she had to do something more, but at the end of the year she ended up being carried away by centaurs. Dolores stayed in the Hospital Wing of Hogwarts for a little while because she was shocked about everything, but when she tried to leave without anyone knowing the poltergeist Peeves chased her away while hitting her with Professor Mcgonagal’s cane. Umbridge went back to the ministry and we don’t know what happened to her until a year after her time at Hogwarts. In Harry's seventh year she was in charge of interrogating the muggle-borns and accusing them of stealing magic from someone eleven though that is impossible. She got Slytherin’s locket saying it was her family heirloom to show people that she was part of the pure-blood family of Selwyn. Dolores got overpowered at the Ministry whale interrogating a muggle-born by Harry and his friends in order to get the locket which was a Horcrux. We know that she was truly evil because if you wore the Horcrux too long you would act evil, but she acted the same way she had always acted. Nobody knows what happened to Umbridge after that but we know she didn’t fight in the Battle of Hogwarts. Umbridge is a nasty person and some people wanted her dead but she was one of those who seemed to be in the middle, because she was for blood purity but against Voldemort.

Dolores Umbridge I have to say was one of the worst Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers Harry had through his years at Hogwarts and he had Snape his sixth year. She is described as evil, but she is just really ambitious to get into the top of power but she wants to follow iit not be one of the powerful people. Dolores is confusing and is not a good person at all. Most fans think that she is worse than Lord Voldemort, who is the worst guy killing people. Dolores is biased to the Hogwarts House because she favors Slytherins which was her old house. You don’t want to be friends with Dolores Umbridge but that won’t be much trouble. She isn’t very likable as everyone knows the minute they talk to her. Dolores Umbridge may have been evil but let's agree she never killed anybody or started two Wizarding Wars.
