Former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello stars in her lead musical film debut as Cinderella in Amazon Cinderella and I gotta tell ya this film is weird and cheesy as f**k. I know as a musical fanatic I'm suppose to but this film was beyond pure crap. When I first watched the trailer I thought this film isn't gonna be all that.
Damn I was right!!!!!
The opening begins with Narrator/The Fabulous Fairy Godmother (played by Billy Porter)It opens with townspeople singing and dancing to Janet Jackson Rhythm Nation. The Rhythm Nation dance scene was very cringe worthy to watch. It didn’t do Janet Jackson justice. It was absolutely meh. Then we met Stepmother, Stepsisters and Cinderella (played by Camilla Cabello) or "Ella" for short and aspiring dressmaker who dreams of having her own shop "Dresses by Ella". I love the song "Million to One" it's beautiful pop ballad song filled with bravery and confidence. I would explain half of the film but I don't think I want to because half of scenes are plain whack. The interesting part was when the Prince Robert (played by Nicholas Galitzine) dressed in a disguise meets Cinderella at the market trying to her own dress she made. Prince buys the dress from Ella, the Town Crier announced or should I say raps his announcement that the Prince is giving a ball looking a maiden to marry. Ella laughs and says she's not interested but the Prince suggested that Ella should go to the ball not to meet the Prince but to see if anyone would gained more interest for Ella's dresses. Very interesting!!!
The most incredible part was the Fabulous Fairy Godmother scene where Fairy Godmother appears, his outfit was and helps Cinderella go to the ball. Fairy Billy’s vocals were on point. I didn't like Ella's dress it wasn't specialty. The glass slippers were alright but they look kind of big on her feet. At the ball, the women were singing En Vogue "Whatta Man", I liked the choreography from the scene. The mashup with Whatta Man and Seven Nation Army was actually music to my ears so I'll give that scene props. The most ridiculous part was when the Stepmother comes down to see Ella in her room (the basement where she sleeps) she tells her secret that she used to play piano and dreams to be a musician but women aren't to be. Then, she finds Ella's glass slipper after the mice accidentally slipped it right in front of her. Now when I watched the scene I thought the Stepmother would be pissed at Ella for leaving the house for attending the ball, she starts to tell Ella that she has to marry the Prince even though she refused but Stepmother insisted that it will help the family. And Ella still refused because she wants to start her dream. Understandable but Lame!!!
The mice (played by James Corden, James Acaster, Romesh Ranganathan) were adorable and somewhat funny. Idina Menzal as the "Evil" Stepmother wasn't evil enough. She was just playing evil but sweet. In every Cinderella films I watched from Disney's Cinderella to .She looks the part of the Stepmother but not evil enough. Even Cinderella's stepsisters Malvolia and (played by Maddie Baillio and Charlotte Spencer) were acting like their mother's background singers and the sisters are not acting evil enough towards Cinderella. At least, the Prince is smart to find Ella this time looking at the face not finding the glass slipper. The ending was fine but the "Let's Get Loud" scene was vile. I understand they are making a film on a female empowerment, a little bit of the story I can understand but honestly this film was absolute disappointment. Writing for the film could've been done better. Some of the scenes were flat out boring. I liked half of the scenes of the film, the film could've made some original songs for the musical film to make it better. Honestly, this film didn't do Cinderella justice after all.
