Billy Flynn exits Days of Our Lives for The Young and the Restless
There is no word on what character he will play or what happens to Chad.
Billy Flynn will exit DOOL
Billy Flynn has been in the role of Chad DiMera on Days of Our Lives since 2014. He replaced Casey Deidrick who had the part from 2009-2013. During his years on the NBC/Peacock drama Flynn, earned three Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor. His character's romance with Abigail Deveraux (Kate Mansi and Marci Miller) was a popular with viewers.
TV Insider and Soaps in Depth have revealed that Flynn is leaving DOOL to join the cast of The Young and the Restless on CBS. He is one of several soap stars who have switched shows. Michell Stafford stopped playing Phyllis Summers on Y&R and originated the role of Nina Reeves on General Hospital before returning as Phyllis.
Soap stars have different results when they leave
There are older actors on all four remaining soaps ( Beyond the Gates is new) who have remained in their roles for thirty to forty years. Some younger actors desire to stretch their wings and see what else is out there. Some are successful, in prime time, others join different soaps like Flynn and some return to the daytime drama they left.
Mansi left Days and is now portraying Kristina Corinthos Davis on General Hospital on ABC. Hunter King left her role of Summer Newman on Y&R and her co-star Michael Mealor walked away from portraying Kyle Abbott at the same time. King has found success with Hallmark and other ventures. Mealor said he returned to the CBS soap because he had bills to pay. He did not mention finding any other roles.
Steve Burton stopped playing Jason Morgan on General Hospital to portray Dillion MacaVoy on Y&R but returned to GH. When he was let go because he did not get a COVID shot he began playing Harris Michaels on DOOL but is not back on the ABC sudser. Dominic Zamprana left General Hospital but returned within a year to his role as Dante Falconeri.
What happens to Chad?
There has been no news regarding whether the role of Chad will be recast or if he will take his children and leave Salem. He has been getting closer to Cat Greene (Annalynne McCord) and fans were expecting a romance to blossom. Anything is possible within the next eight months.
Days of Our Lives tapes about eight month in advance so fans can see Flynn on both soaps for a while. The actor will be playing a new role in Genoa City and not replacing an existing actor but there are no details available.
All about Billy Flynn
Flynn was born on May 29, in St. Francis Minnesota and. once worked as an analyst for Warner Bros Studios. In 2010 he appeared in a Taco Bell commercial and the short film 80 in 10. In 2014 he appeared in Hawaii Five-O and co-produced the short film Soley before joining the DOOL cast.
He married Gina Comparetto in 2016 and will continue to be seen on Days of Our Lives until 2026. The actor gave the following statement about his situation.
“I am grateful for my years at DAYS; it changed my life in the best ways,” Flynn told TV Insider exclusively. “I’ve always said these stories we tell are like doing a play, and I’ve spent the last 10-plus years playing this amazing character and telling one of the all-time great love stories. And now I’m excited for this opportunity and to test myself in a new way.”
