Audible’s Harry Potter Audiobooks Add Star-Studded Ensemble Cast

More Actors Have Been Confirmed to Voice Heroic and Villainous Roles in Audible and Pottermore's "Harry Potter"

With the ambitious Audible productions only a couple of months away, more star-studded casting has been announced, and today we’re taking a deep dive into who will be voicing these iconic characters. Yes, even more actors have been announced.

We already have a stellar line-up: Hugh Laurie as Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen as Voldemort, Riz Ahmed as Snape, Michelle Gomez as McGonagall, and Cush Jumbo as the narrator—the first actress to helm the Potter books, following the legendary narrations of Stephen Fry and Jim Dale, depending on which side of the pond you’re on.

As for the Golden Trio, Audible are doubling the leads for the series, which makes sense since the trio ages across the seven books. Young Harry, Ron, and Hermione (Books 1–3) are Frankie Treadaway, Max Lester, and Arabella Stanton, while older Harry, Ron, and Hermione (Books 4–7) are Jaxon Knopf, Rhys Mulligan, and Nina Barker-Francis.

September Casting Reveals

I had planned to write a different article, but these past two weeks saw massive developments on the Audible series. Since that initial announcement over a month ago, there’s been little to report on. However, September has seen over fifteen more big-name actors lend their voices to this immense audio dramatisation. From heroes to villains, the ensemble cast is slowly taking shape.

On 1st September (Harry Potter Day), another trailer revealed recording sessions with the already confirmed cast, but gave glimpses of the new voices set to join them. The casting of Mark Addy (Game of Thrones, The Full Monty) as fan-favourite Hagrid, Daniel Mays (Line of Duty, White Lines) as Dobby, Alex Hassell (Catherine the Great, The Great) as Lucius Malfoy, and Sara and Avni Deshmukh (Paranormal Witness, various theatre work) as Parvati and Padma Patil made for a strong second wave of announcements.

More British Talent Joins the Ensemble

Barely a week later, even more British talent from film, TV and theatre was confirmed. The new casting announcements from Pottermore and Audible include Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones, Misfits) as Professor Lupin, Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean, Pride & Prejudice) as Professor Umbridge, Kit Harington (Game of Thrones, Eternals) as Professor Lockhart, Leo Woodall (The White Lotus, Pennyworth) as Bill Weasley, Ruth Wilson (Luther, His Dark Materials) as Bellatrix Lestrange, Ambika Mod (This Is Going to Hurt, Hit & Miss) as Nymphadora Tonks, Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek) as Arthur Weasley, James McAvoy (Split, X-Men: First Class) as Mad-Eye Moody, Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones, Upstart Crow) as Professor Sprout, and Matt Berry (The IT Crowd, What We Do in the Shadows) as Sir Cadogan.

On his casting as Mad-Eye Moody, James McAvoy described the “incredibly fun” experience he had creating his character for the series:

“I am absolutely thrilled to bring the fiercely determined Mad-Eye Moody to life in these dynamic audio editions from Pottermore and Audible. He's a layered character, constantly shifting between battle-hardened intensity and unexpected moments of wisdom. Capturing his commanding presence was incredibly fun.”

The White Lotus star Leo Woodall discussed his appointment as the oldest Weasley brother, Bill:

“In creating Bill Weasley's adventures through voice, it is genuinely special to be part of bringing this world to life in a new way for listeners. From the stellar cast to the immersive sound world that Pottermore and Audible have put together, listeners everywhere will be given a new way to be transported directly into these celebrated stories.”

A New Way to Experience the Wizarding World

With more casting announcements to come, Audible have brought together a truly remarkable cast so far. The first audiobook in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone, will debut on Audible on 4th November, with fans able to enjoy monthly releases of subsequent instalments thereafter.

What’s striking about these announcements is not just the scale, but the calibre of talent involved. By blending household names like Keira Knightley, James McAvoy and Ruth Wilson with rising stars like Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod, Audible is creating a mix that feels both fresh and faithful. Unlike the HBO series currently in development, these productions aren’t reimagining Hogwarts visually but are instead re-enchanting it through sound and performances. For many fans, that’s proving just as magical—if not more so.
