Assassination Classroom: A Killer Review!
Spoil Free Anime Review

I have wanted to watch Assassination Classroom since it was first released in 2013. It exploded in popularity with a unique story concept. Of course, I put it on my list to-watch and then it sat on my to-watch list for the next 10 years. You read that right, I have wanted to watch Assassination Classroom for 10 years. Why did I finally watch it? To be completely honest I didn't know what to watch and when I couldn't decide I grabbed my list and scrolled on it until I randomly stopped and then watched that show. This method is how I have found many of my favorite shows, it is also how I have found some shows that I wish I could burn out of my memory. Props to you if you read reviews to find good anime. Once I started assassination classroom I could not stop. I finished the whole show in under a week. So did it live up to the hype?

Storyline: The Earth is threatened by a powerful creature who destroyed 70% of the Moon with its power, rendering it into the shape of a crescent moon forever. The creature claims that within a year, Earth will also be destroyed by him, but he offers mankind a chance to avert this fate. In class 3-E at Kunugigaoka Junior High School, he starts working as a homeroom teacher where he teaches his students not only regular subjects but also the ways of assassination. The Japanese government promises a reward of ¥10 billion (i.e. 100 million USD) to whoever among the students succeeds in killing their teacher, whom they have named "Korosensei". However, this has proven to be an almost impossible task, as he has several inhuman abilities at his disposal, including the capacity to move at Mach 20.
Genre: Action, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Teen comedy
TV-14 with a total of 49 episodes

With such a large cast of characters, this show mastered the ability to give every character show time, a backstory, unique quirks, and life lessons and makes you connect with every character. This is one of the few shows that I have seen that was able to blend in all of the characters across the episodes.
If you are someone who likes connecting with characters I recommend this show just for that one factor.

Season 1 with 22 episodes
As soon as I finished episode 1 I was hooked. It was extremely fast-paced and caught my attention right away. You start off hating Korosensei and you want to see the kids of class 3-E succeed in his assassination. As the show goes on you start to learn more about the kids, their lives, and their dreams, and you begin to root for them more and more. With already a wide variety of characters they don't shy away from introducing new characters. By the end of season 1, you are still rooting for the kids to kill Korosensei but you don't hate him anymore, and even though you know the kids need to fulfill their mission you almost wish they would find another way.

Season 2 with 25 episodes
Season 2 is a roller coaster of emotions full of plot twists. You now learn Korosensei's back story and are torn, like the classroom, on whether they should assassinate him or not. I don't want to spoil anything but I sobbed on the last few episodes. This show gave one of the best endings I have ever seen.

Assassination Classroom: 365 Days (Movie)
I had no idea how they would continue the story after giving it the perfect ending. Well, they didn't. The movie does show the two main characters Nagisa and Karma coming back to the classroom after 7 years. It was sweet to see their interaction as adults, but other than the few minutes they showed them together the whole movie was just a recap with their commentary. I could see myself watching this movie years from now, reliving the show through their adult perspective. However, you don't need to watch it. It doesn't give any new information.
Note: I refuse to watch the live-action movie. Live-action anime never lives up to the expectations of the show and I'd rather not waste time watching it. Did you watch the live-action movie? Love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Ratings:
My Review: This show lived up to the hype big time. It has become one of my new favorites and one I will be rewatching in the future. It doesn't shock me at all that it is one of the highest-rated anime. I will be reading the manga soon.
This is the only reason I would say not to watch it. You can tell by the name but there is a lot of talk of killing, assassination, assassination attempts, and adult content. If you can't handle those themes I wouldn't recommend it. As for anyone else please watch it. I promise it will be worth it.

Awesome review! I really, really enjoyed this anime when I watched it a few years ago. Korosensei utilizing his ability to move at Mach 20 in order to be a great teacher who gave all the kids personalized attention is such a hilarious idea and it was so sweet as well as fun. Nagisa was a great main character as well as super unique. I loved how his psychopathy/bloodlust wasn’t urged on by Korosensei or any of the teachers, but he was also given his own choice and opportunity to decide whether he really wanted to be an assassin in the future. I also cried the last few episodes! The show was really good.
