Agatha All Along

Episode 7

By Alexandrea CallaghanPublished about a year ago 3 min read

So last week’s episode of Agatha All Along was more than disappointing. It, like the fourth episode of WandaVision, will be skipped when it comes to rewatches. It was an unnecessary waste of time and the summation of poor media literacy. That said, this episode looks far more intriguing as all of our witches seem to be dressed up as iconic witches from media. So I am very interested in what this episode will hold and I am hopeful that the show can recover from the major bullshit that was the 6th episode.

So even Agatha doesn’t know if Wanda is really dead (in fiction, obviously we know that she isn’t).

Billy having to read tarot with Damocles swords literally overhead is simply incredible writing. Agatha starts pulling cards willy nilly causing them to be in extreme danger. Lila and Jen are caught in some kind of tunnel system that they have to find their way out of. Lila seems to have some gaps in her memory, as she has been jumping through time this whole series. God Patti Lupone was such a good casting choice. They somehow end up back with Billy and Agatha.

Lila is gonna die…and she knows it. Her time gaps are getting worse because she is at the end of her life. A major part of this series seems to be that witches need covens in order to stay sane and survive. It's kind of a forced found family. People that generally want to isolate themselves actually need each other to survive. I like that as a storytelling device, I think it's a great twist on the found family trope. These aren’t just people that were thrown together and ended up loving each other, it's people who don’t want to be together but NEED each other to survive.

Lila’s trial end up being reading Billy, which is great for his character development. See I think that a Billy centric episode wouldn’t have been terrible if it wasn’t done entirely in flashback. It is an aggressively misused story device and I really wish filmmakers will just chill out with the flashbacks. It's not good.

I like that this episode jumped back and forth in time, it was a really creative way to tell this story and it did a great job of letting us see into Lila’s mind. This is the most narratively connected to a character we’ve been and it's incredible writing. To have us experience the story as she experienced it. The scene where Lila is reading for herself the camera work is incredible. And then Rio is revealed as death (again something we already knew) and it is in such a tense and dramatic way. Agatha admits to knowing about Rio and seriously admits them having a relationship. Lila then sacrifices herself to the Salem Seven for her coven.

Again with the truly incredible visuals. Lila turns the tower upright causing the Salem Seven to fall on the swords that are now below and then she lets go and we see the very first image of the episode as she falls to her death.

Wow…that was an incredible episode. They absolutely redeemed themselves from last week. We only have 2 episodes left and there is still a LOT to wrap up. Rio was revealed as death but she has yet to reappear on screen, we need at least 3 more scenes with her and Agatha. Then we have the whole getting to the end of the road thing. I doubt that actually killed the Salem Seven so we need to wrap that up a little bit better.
